The Sonic X Shadow Generations Japanese website has displayed some interesting information that could hint to a 2nd mystery playable character. Furthermore, a Sonic X Shadow Generations' Prologue Animation titled Dark Beginnings has released. This animation could show some more details on who the 2nd playable character in Shadow's campaign could be. In this video I theorize who possibly could be playable in Shadow's campaign. I love how everyone talks about classic shadow despite the fact the first and most recent appearance of shadow has next to no differences

Emerl could make sense, not only because of the prologue animation, but also 'cause appearing in the Advance Series/Battle he's the most fleshed out candidate to be a 2D-based antihero character. (Another Shadow form wouldn't make much sense but we'll see)

We'll never get Classic Shadow because it doesn't make sense canonically because Shadow was created the way we always saw him in the media, he's immortal and he doesn't age

I really, really hope they put Silver in. And I want Shadow and Silver to have a final battle with them going Super and even have their super forms playable in levels like in the original Sonic Generations.

They're bringing back Emerl, and Generations is all about time shenanigans, so... it could be Emerl being playable (which I would adore), or Gemerl being playable (and maybe fighting Emerl as a boss?) since we haven't seen Gemerl in forever and as far as I know he's still around with Cream or something

"Classic" Shadow is deconfirmed. Classic Sonic is likely not to be playable in Shadow's levels as well. So it's likely one of the cast of characters that served a major role. Possibly Blaze, Gemerl, or of course, Silver.

Being realistic with Sonic Team, it will probably just be Shadow's doom form. You may have a choice to have its ability or not hence another character would make sense. But all others in your list seems plausible too except classic Shadow (SEGA don't want it to be real).

Funny thing. Maria is playable in Shadow the Hedgehog. If you hook up a second controller, you can play the character accompanying Shadow (some of them anyway). And yes, Maria can throw hands.

I have another candidate on who that might be. What if its just Sonic. What if Sonic has a new campaign inside Shadow Generations. Remember, Shadow Generations is caused by Black Doom influence, not Time Eater. It might be our present Sonic/Shadow teaming up in the end to fight Black Doom. But this possibility depends on when this game exactly took place

It is gonna be Emerl, not as a playable character, but as a boss fight. But not just one, but rather, you fight him repeatedly during the story, until you have one final battle as final boss, where he copies EVERYTHING, even the wings
