First Mossberg I ever shot was a 20 gauge bolt action shotgun. It held 3 shells and had an adjustable choke. It was my uncles and he had left it at my grandparents farm. My cousins and I would attempt to shoot pigeons with it. We were not very old and with not much training. I guess you could say we had on the job training. By the end of the summer we might have taken a half dozen birds. The only rule my grandmother gave us was don't shoot the roof on the silo or the barn. I don't think any of us ever broke that rule.

I appreciate the fact that not every firearm you review is $1, 000 + out of the box. Those of us on a budget thank you for reviewing a broad spectrum of price ranges. Keep up the good work and keep one in the chamber, brother.

I am interested in the accuracy. Hopefully it is solid. I really like Mossberg as a company. All American and family owned if I am correct. I am a big Ruger and Savage guy as well. The Patriot has some mixed reviews. Please, please do a few different ammo offering group tests. Looks pretty decent from here. My encouragement is put a really good optic on it. Give it as much advantage as possible. I want it to succeed.

Never doubt a Mossberg, been using them since 1965. Great firearms.

I would call that a heavy fluted barrel. The fluting makes it strong and lite. You may be surprised.

Great choice. Looking forward to the groups!

I have to wonder how many of the people trashing Mossbergs have ever actually even shot one. My Patriot 30-06 with the walnut stock put the first three rounds into a dime size hole with Federal 168 grain Berger Hybrid Hunters. I also had two of their earlier model 4x4s, one 270wsm in walnut and one 300wsm in laminate that were both sub moa. Ron Spomer speaks very highly of them as do a number of writers. Find the round they like and it'll give you great results.

Awesome! Can't wait to see you shoot it. I've only had experience with Mossberg shottys, but they make good stuff. First shotty I ever bought is a Mossberg 500 pump in 20 gage. I've still got it and it's done well

Sweet! I have the camo version. With Hornady precision hunter 175 eld-x I get around .75 to 1" groups at 100yds. Not too bad for a gun in the $500 price range. Looking forward to see how yours groups!

People are gonna hate, but my Mossberg Patriot Predator 6.5 PRC will shoot factory ammo at ¾" m.o.a. I still like my Rugers more, but that Mossberg is a fine rifle for cheap. Mine is the camo version.

I love me the Savage rifles because they can swap barrels and bolt heads, without having a rifle sit around the gunsmiths for months

I have the Mossberg Patriot with salt 'n' pepper laminate stock in .375 Ruger. Stainless cerakote finish. I get great accuracy with my handloads...from mild to wild (well, "full house loads"). Never had a problem with it. Taken several deer with custom handloads. They drop or don't go far. In short, my experience has been very positive.

Mossberg makes good entry level guns. First centerfire rifle I bought was a Mossberg in .270 win and It was under $300 😂. I was new to shooting and couldnt get a group less than 4" at 100 yards but it was cheap! I am sure some of that accuracy was due to me being new to shooting. I still have it I should pull it out and try again now that I have improved. Maybe the gun is just fine 🤷‍♂️

I think the accuracy issues are over hyped or are after people crank the action screws down too tight and break the plastic pillars. The stocks are the weak spot and I think the root of the accuracy issues discussed on the internet. I have 2 that shoot very acceptable. One in 6.5 Creedmoor that is sub moa with cheap Federal non-typical 140 grain. The other is a 300 win mag in their fancy wood stock and is sub moa with Hornady whitetail hunter 180 grain. They are not the best at anything, but a great value for the price. Both are definitely hunting rifle accurate.

I bought a couple of my sons Mossberg rifles because that’s what they wanted for their first rifles and they have been nothing but fantastic! My oldest of my 4 sons does all his hunting for deer with the Mossberg in 6.5 creedmore and he has other rifles that cost thousands of dollars but just loves his mossberg!

I have the 6.5 PRC in the true timber strata version. Take the barreled action off and check the stock. There is a plastic pillar that is up by the barrel. I put mine in am Oryx Chasis because that pillar will mess with your accuracy
