So basically the panel box is used as a breaker for each 60v battery module and a bus for all of them to be paralleled.. pretty cool!

I wish I'd seen this before I bought 16 din-rail DC breakers. Oh well, very cool. Always great to learn new things I didn't know before!

This is really cool. Had no idea these could be used like this. Great stuff and thanks for the video.

that's a very cool and innovative idea. I like it.

Yes sir. 48 volts is the TOP of the line for a single pole Square D qo breaker. Love this setup. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.

Great Information!!! Very useful for consideration of many.

I think it would be good idea to test the breakers dc functionality. I would love to see if you only have one 20a breaker and draw 25 with your inverter at 48v, will it trip that breaker. Arching could weld a breaker at 60 volt if the travel between connectors is less than arc.

Another interesting thing I have been investigating is 48vdc (typically 40-60vdc) LED lamps that use the various standard edison derived sockets.

You could drop a breaker directly into the DC load center and wire up standard sockets and drop in those special bulbs, all in DC.

Very VERY interesting I knew that some 30and 60A SquareD disconect were rated 240Vac and 600VDC and that it was indicated on the door label.

That is the most interesting fun fact ever. Thanks.

always use the QO... top of the line.. orange fault indicator too! getting hard to find.. will miss them when gone!

I didn’t even know you could do this, my electrician took my 24V DC power into the Victron 24/3000 inverter and wired it to my AC panel. I have a 24 V system. Then I have a little switch to go from AC to off grid. I have no clue whether it’s right or wrong. 🤔

Love your videos Ben, your a great host! This stuff is awesome. What wire gauge are you running to all the diffrent breakers? Cheers!

This is great! Since your load center is acting as a combiner, can it not also act as overcurrent protection of the individual panels in a solar array. I understand that if more than two panels are paralleled, they must be fused. I am installing a 36 panel array. The spec sheet says:
Open circuit voltage 40.39
Short circuit current 10.25
Rated voltage 33.24
Rated current 9.73
Looks to me like this would work.
BUT I checked the price at my SqD dealer. The load center QO142L225PG is Only $243.86 + cover $24.89. The breakers QO115PCAFIC are Only $69.46. That totals ONLY $2772.05. That will take care of half of my panels, so double that and it costs $5544 for two panels, covers and breakers.
That information curbed my enthusiasm! What am I missing here?

I Do have one Question. If one was just getting started and had 1 Battery thus far, wouldn't the breaker trip every time you hit it with a load that draws more than 50 AMPS from the Battery? ...Great Video and Thanks for the clarification.

How do I figure out what size breaker to use for the battery? 51V 160Ah Max charge 160A continuous discharge 150A Max discharge 200A overcurrent detection 200 A with 10s It has a 16S2P cell configuration.

Just ordered the QO154L225PG; Thank you Ben!!!

I noted your urge to continue expanding; so I got the larger LC upfront. Question tho Ben: are you worried about the limit square D saying only 10 2-pole breakers per LC? I found this to be my only concern going into my first large 500+ ah build. As ALWAYS thank you for your help and support in continually educating us in the art of solar 🙏.

SO the way you have it hooked up the flow of power is backward as compared to grid ie the grid power would feed the main bus bar from the large wire where as the power is fed from the small wires to the large one which feed the inverter Correct. or are use feeding the panel from the large wires to feed components like charge controllers etc. I guess it doesn't matter.

225A main lug would only be 10 * 20A breakers. I think you may be exceeding that if you’re not careful. If you don’t need more per battery, I’d suggest 15A breakers.
