I live in Rwanda. Gifted Helldivers 2 to a friend here on Steam. He had hundreds of hours on it. Loves the game, and is PISSED. Essentially the game becomes a digital paperweight soon for him. He won't be playing if Sony sticks to their guns. Currently trying to get a refund. He's told me total number of concurrent online players has taken a huge hit. I can understand why.

It's so obvious Sony is doing this just to please shareholders about growth with the PSN accounts, but it's like dude isn't the consistent support of the game good enough ? Is Sony really expecting people to put all their trust with their data when they have experience seven data breaches, pathetic company

This reminds me when Overwatch 2 came out and for a bit they required everyone to not only have a Battle Net account but also verify a phone number for all console players too

Setting the expectation at launch is the biggest problem here then retroactively going back. There are practical ones too like playstation not available in some regions of the world, making the game they bought unplayable now which is a big deal. Genuine concerns as well. Sony has been hacked and had customer data leaked in huge swaths like a dozen actual times in the last 10 years! People are waking up to how valuable their data is and how little its protected and cared about by companies. Sony just want to brag to shareholders how their account # has grown and introduce potential customers to the Sony ecosystem. Nobody running these companies are actual gamers. They are so disconnected from what their customer base is and wants.

They didn't give up, they're now restricting sales in countries that don't have PSN. Seems to me they just don't want to have players that are in restricted PSN areas play their games anymore.

And it blows my mind even more because Sony and Arrowhead were already making money out the wazoo with how crazy successful Helldivers 2 has been… but corporate greed always finds a way to reach for more and ruin it in the process smh
