One thing many may not know, especially for those who have never cruised before, is that while the cruise line's headquarters (HQ) are located in places such as Miami; the ship itself may not necessarily be registered in the same country as its HQ. Most ships use a Flag of Convenience and register their ships in places such as the Bahamas, Panama, Virgin Islands, or Bermuda among others. While the crew must follow the cruise line's standards; their pay (salary) is reflected by wherever the ship is registered. Same goes with passengers who try to sue the cruise line for damages. The crew, except for the officers in the bridge, may be making wages far below United States minimum wage. That is why they usually do the best job they can such as receiving personal tips from passengers at the end of the cruise.

Also, you'll be hard pressed to find crew members from the United States or Canada onboard with limited exceptions.

Gluttony indeed. I went on a cruise over the winter break and I ate so much. It really takes self restraint to not overindulge at the buffet. Plus the dining hall meals with Royal Caribbean has a three course meal, with bread. I really packed on the pounds

On my 1st ever cruise, I accidentally walked into an AA meeting, drink in hand, and loudly asked, what's this then?!.... I've rarely felt

After I had a full liver transplant and they finally took out my breathing tube, I laid in my hospital bed watching all kinds of tv while I slowly recovered. I remember seeing multiple commercials for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and one day I told my mom that once I got out of the hospital, I was going for a nice long cruise. I was out of my mind on high tension pain killers, and I would talk her ear off about taking that cruise.😁 It's been almost 5 years now since transplant and I have yet to take that cruise. Maybe one day.😊

Very accurate video. Some notes:

1. If you see the crew running around and have no idea what's going on, DON'T go grabbing your life jacket. Listen to the PA system and follow instructions calmly. If you are not informed, the situation has nothing to do with you and that is for good reason. If anything concerns you, you will be notified.
2. With modern regulations, no cruise ship is allowed to dump their waste directly in the ocean or any body of water. There have been a few cases where a ship did this illegally and the authorities fined and sanctioned their parent companies so hard the regulations are made more and more strict after every such scandal. Furthermore, there are different kinds of sewage on board: blackwater, greywater and clear, drinking water. International regulations allow the discharge of water which meets certain conditions in terms of chemical and mechanical cleanliness. But the area where such discharge is permitted is also governed by these regulations with some countries even setting their own restrictions on top.
3. The legality of the captain marrying a couple depends on what flag the ship sails under. In some cases they don't have the legitimacy but under certain flags they absolutely do.
4. Even with LNG, try as they might cruising will probably never ever be sustainable. The amount of emissions and waste generated from ship operation and transportation logistics is insane. Just think about it: some food can be flown in from halfway around the world the the port where it is loaded unto the ship in bulk. Plus the amount of food waste is a mind boggling averageing well over a metric ton each and every day.

I work in the cruise industry and I would like to correct some incorrect information:

- Cruise ships and boats are NOT interchangeable.
- Every ship built after a certain year must have at least 3 morgues
- New ships don’t have true holding cells. Normally they have an empty interior cabin that they will put very unruly passengers in with security outside the room
- Royal Caribbean codes are incorrect
- All ships have a sewage treatment center onboard to properly clean and disinfect sewage to same standards as land. The treated water than can be released at sea so far from ports
- Captains are legally allowed to merry couples in most counties
- Cruise ship are surprisingly very very clean. They are far from perfect but for the amount of people a cruise hold they are very clean

For whatever reason I’ve never had any desire to be on a boat in the middle of the ocean for days. This video certainly hasn’t changed it.

The difference between a boat and a ship is how they turn. A boat heels in toward the direction of the turn, whereas a ship heels away from the turn. Generally, larger vessels will heel away from the turn.
