I caught myself watching the clock behind J the entire time and I think it is very impressive that he sat there for nearly an hour making that video yet found a way to cut it down to about 16 minutes of interesting content. Great job.👌 This really shows how much work and editing goes into these videos.

Did a 3 day to Mexico with 3 other buddies to celebrate one getting his Masters degree. 4 single dudes in a ship and no wife to book it for us. That was my first cruise and was epic!

The view from an aft balcony never gets old.
Spent most of my cruise just chilling watching the wake, it was magical

You’re on point with these. While cruising is fabulous, it’s good to be aware of the downside so you can be prepared.

Actually, my husband is the cruise planner in our marriage. I'm totally fine with him planning our vacations because he is really good at it. 😊

New muster certainly is a great change! That was always my irritation of day 1, standing waiting forever for a few people!

The worst thing you can do in a port where you've never been is to go exploring right outside the cruise terminal. That's true whether you're a passenger on a cruise ship or a sailor in the Navy. Do you self a favor. Either make a plan in advance of where you're going and what you are going to do in a port or take the ship's shore excursions. Fail to do this and all you're going to see are merchants and in some cases racketeers looking to separate you from your money.

Great points J. I have almost always booked the lowest priced inside cabin (about 180 sq.ft) on every cruise except to Alaska. (ALWAYS get a Balcony Cabin for Alaska). I only sleep there, so if the bed is comfortable how do I even know I'm not in a Suite? I get all the amenities that most of my other fellow Cruisers enjoy at greatly reduced prices. My Expectations for the cabin are not high, but in reality, I am always comfortable. My favorite Casino activity is to watch other people lose their money, so again I'm a happy camper. I've been on Cruises that are less expensive than staying at Motel 6 and eating at McDonalds. Nothing beats going to bed in Barbados and waking up in Aruba. It's like magic. You absolutely can do it on a budget, but do your homework ahead of time to avoid surprises. My favorite part of a Cruise Vacation is to see almost everyone on board enjoying themselves. I don't think many go a on Cruise to complain, it's a happy place.

On NCL, they removed anything on the chairs if items were left longer than 30 minutes or so.

We were on Liberty of the Seas. We went on an excursion in Roatan. The hotel hired police to keep vendors from bothering guests at the beach. There was a roped off section for us. It was a very nice excursion with lobster and champagne for lunch. The water was prefect as was the white sand beach! Plenty of lounges and umbrellas! Unlimited cocktails. No surprises.

My first cruise was a four day cruise on the Carnival Ecstasy probably 20 years ago. The first night in the dining room Maitre'd said that this cruise was going to way exceed our expectations. I didn't believe him at that moment, but he was exactly right. The food was fabulous and I could get as much food as I wanted. I am a big beef eater and I ordered two entrees (they didn't mind at all). The waiter was like our personal friend. He remembered our names and our kid's names and what we liked. Service was beyond outstanding. The room attendant kept our room sparkling clean and had towel animals, and asked us how are day was and if he could do anything for us. The port stops were fun and the ocean was beautiful. We had the best time ever. The entertainment was great. What was unexpected was all the really nice people we talked with. We didn't know we were going to share our table with strangers, they were really nice and we enjoy our time with them. Also, we would meet other couples at different places and have drinks with them. It is so much easier to make friends on a cruise ship than at home. Since our first cruise, we have taken numerous other cruises. I would say that our reality has exceeded our expectations. Does anyone else on here relate to this?

A vacation is what you make of it. My first cruise was after 9/11. Everyone in the country was afraid of everything. Me, I thought, freedom isn’t being stuck in your house afeared of everything. So I got on a plane, there were maybe 10 people on it, flew to Florida & took a 7 day western Caribbean cruise. I booked an ocean view cabin and got upgraded to a balcony. There weren’t a lot of people on the ship, so yes, I got the window seat at dinner. I had a massage and seaweed wrap in the spa made me feel wonderful. Since the ship had an adult pool area, I hung out there enjoyed the peace & quiet, it was heaven. I completely forgot about everything going on back home. Went to 4 ports of call, saw Mayan Pyramids, jungle beaches, snorkeled, and bargained with the merchants. At night enjoyed a show, then went to a disco, with a great DJ. I can never taking a cruise it exceeded my expectations.

My second cruise a year later was also good. I booked a balcony room, was upgraded to a panorama suite with a butler. I was lucky. This was a newer larger ship & they had an island which was amazing. The food was great, the entertainment was fun, the ports of call were interesting, you just have to be nice but firm & not let all the locals at the port get you into Buying their stuff. If your nice but firm they get the message or just tell them you have no money. At the end of this cruise which was mostly European passengers, they had as entertainment a skit that involved the passengers participation and we all wore togas & after had a toga party. This ship didn’t have upscale restaurants. Everything except alcohol was included.

The next was going to Jamaica & yes at the port people surround you wanting your money from trinkets to drugs to people asking for a handout. It can be intimidating but again letting them know you have no money really stops it.

My last was in 2015, & I think they booked an Evangelical conference at least it seemed that way. While the ports were good, the food & service was good, it really wasn’t a partying crowed. But the accommodations were nice as the ships spaces. I think after this year was the beginning of the super populated ships, the add on extras like upscale restaurants etc. When I lost my cruise companion, being a solo traveler just didn’t work, you have to pay double for everything. Also the thought of being on a ship the size of an aircraft carrier with literally more people on the ship than live in my village, it’s the my idea of cruising. It’s more like a hotel that is floating on water, where you pay for everything including the crowds.

I’m older, I liked the smaller ships, but understand the newer ones are suppose to be amazing. Decided that during the pandemic is the time to take a cruise if you have common sense not to get the virus. The rates are lower which allows a solo traveler to afford it, the capacity is down, Andy there is nothing better than being taken care of by the crew. Your cabin is cleaned, you can eat at the complimentary restaurants, visit beautiful places as long as you abide by the ship’s protocol and the protocols of the ports you visit. Nothing is better than this. Best wishes

Oh if a towel or book is on a chaise for more than 30 minutes with no one actually there, Etiquette suggests you remove the towel or book, place it in an area where the owner can find it, or give it to a crew member for lost & found. Reserving a chaise you aren’t going to use is just selfish, not great etiquette to your fellow traveler at all……Have a great day…keep looking for adventure & learning about other places…
