This is not the most exciting topic lol but I'm passionate about sharing what I've learned in this department because it has been such a game changer for me! The only issue I really have with this video is the explanation of green washing. The presence of “fragrance” in a product does not immediately signal green washing. Like she said, fragrance is a blanket term for a list of ingredients that can be used to enhance the smell of a product. This list also includes “natural” ingredients such as essential oils, essences, and alcohols. Some products will call these ingredients out separately, but it is not required according to current regulations. If unsure about a product’s fragrance, it’s best to check directly with the product manufacturer. Responsible companies will disclose what they use in their fragrance formulations.

In addition, just because the source of a fragrance is considered natural does not always mean it is safe or better. Lots of essential oils can be toxic to pets, children and adults, inflammatory to the body, and cause things like rashes, irritations, and photo sensitivity.

Determining if a product is Green washing is not just about a products ingredients. It is about the whole environmental impact of the product. This includes ingredient sourcing, product production, packaging, shipping, distribution, and the company’s conduct as a whole. It is possible that a product that contains “fragrance” is not green washing. It’s also possible that a product contains all the right ingredients but IS green washing.

Bottom line, if trying to reduce toxic exposure and live more sustainably, do your research and use trusted sources like EWG. It isn’t perfect, but it will definitely help steer you in the right direction. From there, it will be up to you to determine what is best for you and your family.

I'd love to see a video on the products you use vs the toxic and harmful ones. I've been switching a lot myself!!
I deffinantly have been affected by toxic personal care products, etc. Thanks so much for this video and being honest. We need more truth in the world. Real truth. Not just what the main stream says is true 😄🥸

We also make all of our baby food and found only 1 brand for little snacks that I feel comfortable giving to my toddler. Different topic but reminded me of this!

Can you show us all the swaps you have made, it’s a little hard to figure out what’s actually safe to use, it’s sad to see how they’re setting us up to get sick, how is this allowed in US. Many of these ingredients are not allowed in other countries

Can you show anything other than YL products? I don’t support MLM companies especially with a founder with a history of sketchy behavior.

Becca - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for this video. My mother has been living with MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) for years, and it is not a commonly understood illness; I too have minor sensitivities, and it seems normal to develop these sensitivities when cutting out all the crap. It is chemicals like these that set off symptoms, among SO many others, when they are in products marketed to us that are deemed safe to use. The bottom line is they are not. As an RD2B, I hope to incorporate this awareness into my practice. Much love :)

Becca, I’ve been a followers for many many years! A while ago you recommended the Acure brand for hair care which I still use the conditioner cause I don’t go through that stuff very fast. I switched over all my skin care to mother dirt because its probiotics for your skin and it’s everything I believe in skin care but the shampoo is just terrible unfortunately . Wondering if you could recommend a good shampoo that is kind to the bacteria on our skin and hair. Also would love to know what sunscreen you use! Badger is a great natural brand but it’s just soooo sticky and white and really hard to use.

So curious why YL didn’t do a one stop shop since they started 25 years ago? I finally made the jump because I didn’t need a starter kit! Any EO recommendations that are on the cheaper side for acne dark spots/scars? Thanks.

How do you feel about the brand 7th generation? I know many companies market as healthy and clean but they’re really not.
