Andy is so broken in this scene, so tired of it all. Abused, bullied, taken advantage of, lied to, held down. For 20 years. Grey, older, and those 20 years completely flushed down the toilet.

And yet he still finds a small glimmer of hope that things can one day be better. He worked at it for 20 years, digged that tunnel despite not knowing he could ever get away with it, or it will work. He never gave up.

And in the end, he found his peace, he found his redemption.

That's why this movie is so universal, there isn't a single person on this planet, irrespective of gender, skin color, religion, nationality who can't relate to this story.

Tim Robbins performance in this scene is just perfect. The anecdote he tells about his Wife re his failure as a husband and how he didn't open up to her is so believably expressed through his behaviour, speech and emotional tone. His introversion, quiet and aloof manner, and clarity of mind are on full display here, although there is also a thread of his personal growth running throughout. He expresses deep regret and a profound understanding of his failures which subtly reveals that he is now much wiser and has developed a far broader perspective of the intricacies of life.

The Shawshank Redemption is the only movie that cannot ever bore me out. I relate so much to Andy in a metaphorical sense. I’ve felt like I’ve been in a mental prison for a good majority of my life due to being limited by multiple people my entire life(mainly my father for his own personal gain, OCD, and laziness). Andy in this scene represents where I am in my life. I practically feel broken down and worn out by my father and the rest of my family, very worried that I won’t have any real friends for the rest of my life, and faced the worst possible sudden breakup in my life that caused me to relapse into drugs. I’ve attempted suicide twice, and heavily considered again recently. But I don’t want to do it, because I remember the words of Andy Dufresne when he says “Get busy living, or get busy dying, ” alongside “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” This movie is the only reason I keep going, especially this scene. It gives me the feeling of hope I desperately crave and desire. One day, I hope to meet Tim Robbins and I hope to tell him how much he means to me, how much he inspired me, and how much grateful I am for his words keeping me alive, because I know one day, there will be hope for me and I will have my moment of freedom where I escape from everyone who’s held me back my entire life.

I still think it's terrible how the warden in the captain of the guards killed the only man who knows the truth about what happened to Andy's Wife and Her Lover the worst thing is the cops took away 20 years of a man's life and you think that in that 20 years span they would have at least found the real murderer and they would have at least given Andy Dufresne a really big amount of money along with a massive apology to go with it first

Andy s confession.
He admits honnestly now that the young cold man he was, killed indirectly his wife (to take a lover then gunshot both)
So that s why he accepts that he deserves 20 years jailed.
Introspection deep meanings.
Now in jail he changed for better.
He paids his due.

Excellent movie. But I always fast forward over the violence. The moral is perfect. Forgive yourself. Don't hang don't guilt. Don't exaggerate it. Learn from your mistakes. Don't make them again.

Red tells Andy he may have been a bad husband, but he was NOT responsible for his wife's death. He was NOT a muderer. (Minute 1.27) From that moment on Andy is a free man. He believes Red and accepts his own innocence AND his REAL responsibility. The unfaithful wife probably had feelings of guilt and shame and those feelings and beliefs behind them triggered her attracting the true killer. That's how the Law of Attraction works. If you do wrong, you attract the same from others . OR if you simply feel guilty, you will attract punishment. Stop feeling guilty; act more responsibly; and punishment ends.

This is my favorite movie for a multitude of reasons. I can't wait to share this movie with my kids. But, its not for kids. With that said, what age do you think is appropriate for this movie?
