In a world full of slappers and tappers, Jaco made the bass relevant with old-fashioned fingerstyle and harmonics. Dude was such a tortured poet.

That is a Jaco signature line, he played it a lot in NyC with his trio.. and on vinyl it’s on the cut of Al Di Meolas Land of The Midnight Sun where Jaco plays on one track.

I’ve lost count of number of bassists I’ve played this to and they all end up laughing! It’s so laughably simple you know you’re listening to something great. Pastorius is unfairly maligned for being too ‘busy’, too technical, too many notes. In fact he’s one of the most economical bassists I’ve ever heard. He’s bone idle at times! ‘Come On Come Over’ is Pastorius at his most bone idle. Pure genius. And he very rarely slaps. He once said to Marcus Miller ‘I can play like that but I can’t be bothered!’

I’ve been a drummer and percussionist off and on since I was 12. My 12 year old daughter is taking her first beginner drum lesson this Friday.

My friends said, “she’s going to need a bass player”. Now I have a reason to learn the bass at 64!
🤦🏾‍♂️😂

The Rocco Prestia influence in Come On, Come Over is super obvious but in the most "I'm Jaco, this style is MINE" way lol

The first time I heard this song, I bought punk jazz. 15 years ago... I lost my mind 😂❤❤❤❤

I think it’s probably because I’m a middle aged dork of a white guy with glasses that has played bass since I was 12 years old that binds me so much to these two cats. I smile like this too when I’m playing some that I really feel!

Jaco was the man. Such a shame what happened to him

I only wish that Jaco’s tone had more growl to it. Was a bit heavier
