2016 Dodge Ram 2500 - 5.7 Hemi (Review)

Review of 16' dodge ram 2500 with 5.7 hemi engine. Overall it is a good looking truck with some very nice features including integrated trailer brake controller, cupholders, stow and go, power sliding rear window, and vocie controls, but truck is way underpowered and will not move out of its own way.

Had the transmission rebuilt in mine with the HD hauler package from NAPC. Upgraded converter, different valve body, better clutches. Made a huge difference in how much it hunts for gears. The interior is nice, seems to have decent power. Cheap work truck. 2017 Ram 2500 SLT 5.7.

Just bought a 2017 2500 5.7. I’m averaging 18+ mpg and VVT-I which I’m sure a bunch of folks will find confusing, and so far no complaints. The 6.4 of the same year only offers 30+ H.P.. and a bit more TQ., stock. I’ve towed/hauled just fine and the ride is comfy. If you need huge power on the regular, guess it’s the diesel.

for a gas 3/4 ton it's not bad. it's not a diesel but it's also a good 10 grand cheaper.

What I noticed with the 5.7 is they are lacking in low end torque and power, they make all their torque and power in the higher rpm range. When I tow my 20ft ski boat my 5.7 1500 has to sit at almost 3000 rpm just to maintain 70mph

underpowered? I towed a 12, 000 lb trailer through the mountains in Oregon with mine. I thought it did fine. I could also break loose the tires by just hitting the gas. 4.10 rear. limited slip rear. mine hauled ass. mine also had 33 inch mud terrains. with the 5.7 you cant be afraid of high rpms. could barley get 14 mpg at 55 mph though. it was a great truck. I miss it. I don't miss the mpg though.

I'm about to pick up a '12 2500 outdoorsman 5.7 and it's definitely not under powered, that's coming from an 04 Silverado hd 6.0 gasser that makes 300hp and 360tq vs the '12 5.7 making 383hp and 400tq. I'll take a nearly 90hp and 40tq jump lol I also tow a 14ft gooseneck dump trailer and my Silverado always pulls what ever I put behind it but it's still a pig

Yes you can turn off traction control. The button even says traction control off.

You had your AC set to both front vents and leg vents.... You're only getting 50% of blower up top

Yea the newer 5.7 Hemi’s have more HP my Big Horn 1500 is pretty sweet.

It’s not that underpowered since it has 383 horsepower 1:40

if your buying a 3/4 ton then u obviously plan on pulling some heavier loads so don't buy a gasser

I bought a 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 HEMI love it. So much better than the 5.7
