Cruise News: 5 Passengers Struck By Lighting in Port

Cruise news today. First responders in St. Maarten attended to five cruise passengers reportedly struck by lightning in Philipsburg around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. Carnival has detailed its new adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club at Celebration Key, opening in July 2025. NCL announced that the Norwegian Encore will undergo major updates. For everyone asking why people were swimming during a storm...there was no storm where we were swimming. There was a dark cloud very far away in the distance, but above us it was actually a clear sky when the lightning happened. Also, there was no lightning in the area until it hit everyone (100 people or more were actually affected by this). We are all very traumatized and recovering so just a little insight. My whole family was in the water along with so many other families. No one saw it coming.

I just got back on Carnival Vista and sat on my balcony and I heard a loud explosion sound. My son asked me what was that! Sending prayers to all that this affected. 🙏🏽

After seeing your video's headline, I was worried that some big light pole had fallen and hit some cruise passengers. Now that I see it was LIGHTNING and not LIGHTING, it's even scarier!

Your stock video of the lightning strike is not accurate on here. It did not hit out in the water as your video indicates. I was in the water, about 300 yards away when it struck. There was absolutely no storm warning, no threat of lightning until it hit. It sounded like a bomb explosion and it hit 2 people directly that were holding an umbrella and others immediately around them felt the residual effects. I was a passenger on the Carnival Vista, swimming at the time it happened, but was just far enough away that no one on our section of the beach was injured. The strike occurred on land, not in the water. Prayers for those who were injured. If there was “severe weather” in the area, I’m certain we (all of the cruise passengers) would have been forewarned for safety precautions. There was absolutely no warning at all. It came from nowhere in an instant!

Geez, of course, carnival is gonna charge for every thing on Celebration key. It’s gonna cost ya a bundle to get off the ship and spend a day there. Sorry to hear about those passengers, hoping for a full recovery ❤️‍🩹 to all.
