A Norwegian Cruise Line ship was damaged after hitting an iceberg in Alaska, forcing the remainder of the cruise to be canceled.

The Norwegian Sun was headed to the Hubbard Glacier when it struck a growler. A growler is a piece of ice that has broken off from a larger glacier or shelf ice, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). They are roughly the size of a truck and are generally less than 3 feet in height above the sea surface and can occupy an area of more than 200 square feet.

One passenger told the Juneau Empire that the ship came to a complete stop from the impact.

"Then all sudden, boom, the whole ship shakes," said Benjamin Talbott, who was aboard the ship with his family. "And I'm like, 'Well, what's going on?' And then I had to start recording and I looked at the front of the ship and all I see is this an iceberg just turning over and coming down. And I was like, Oh my God, we hit an iceberg."

“Massive iceberg?” That was a damn pebble compared to an iceberg.

0:15 many ships have hit an iceberg before and after Titanic, not just in the 1900's but in modern day too, no matter how prepared a ship is for the ocean, disaster will happen however, and whenever it wants to

I’ve always wanted to do one of those Alaska cruises. Everyone on that ship got a cool story out of it. “Yeah we hit an iceberg like the Titanic. Fortunately we didn’t go down”

To put it in perspective this is a cruise ship, the Titanic was an ocean liner. The iceberg here is a growler, it's at the end of its life whereas the berg the Titanic hit was 100ft above the water making it the same height as the Titanic - the weight of the berg was estimated at 1.5m tonnes. This berg in the video maybe 10 tonnes at best as the cruise ship was able to knock it out of the way. The one Titanic hit would have pushed back hence the shudder many passengers felt on that fateful night.

Titanic 2.0? Uhh yeah, no. Don’t compare this little fluke to the Titanic which actually sunk and killed over a thousand passengers.

These the type of guys who won’t let people forget about the iceberg, I’m sure they made everyone on that ship remember that they hit a “huge” ice berg

This is a cruise ship called the Norwegian Sun, and it did hit that iceberg, but only received minor damage.

I'm guessing that's the same ice, Berg that destroyed titanic, just a little melted

News.casters failed to clarify,
The voyage was suspended & the ship returned to seattle dock because of the damage.
Passengers were refunded the fare.

Wow, I was on a Bahamas cruise on this ship in 2018. Thankfully it just hit a little growler and not a big iceberg that could do serious damage

Give that man an academy award for some fantastic acting. In case nobody figured it out the "oh my god" calls were to make the video more dramatic.
