Broccoli is a great vegetable that provides many health benefits. It is typically planted in the spring and takes about 10 to 16 weeks till it’s ready to harvest, and the plant can grow up to 2 and a half feet tall.

1 cup of raw chopped broccoli provides about 31 calories, 6 grams of carbohydrates, less than a gram of fat, 2.6 grams of protein, 2.4 grams of fiber and less than 2 grams of sugar. Broccoli has a robust micronutrient profile, as they are high in vitamin C, which plays an important role as an antioxidant and promotes skin, bone and ligament health, vitamin k, which can help against blood clotting and improve bone health, vitamin a, which can benefit vision, reproduction and immunity, folate, which is important in the production of DNA, and white and red blood cells, and Manganese, which plays a role in healing wounds, bone formation and the metabolism of amino acids.

Broccoli also contains antioxidants that can help to protect cells and compounds that are believed to protect against cancer. And, for a vegetable, broccoli does contain a higher amount of protein, which helps in muscle growth, and helps build and repair tissues in the body.
Broccoli is also high in fiber, which can help improve gut health, bowel health, lower cholesterol levels, aid in weight control and in removing toxins from the body.

Broccoli is rather inexpensive as it typically ranges in cost from $1.80 to $2.20 per pound, which equates to about $.40 for a 1 cup serving. And broccoli can be eaten raw with a low calorie dip, it can be roasted, steamed, with pasta, as part of a stir fry, added to salads or added to soups.
And China is the number one producer of broccoli.

Bottom line is that broccoli is a great, nutrient dense vegetable that is versatile and easy to prepare. And it can also be satisfying to know that you are consuming something created completely through nature.
