P&O Sackings: Shadow Transport Secretary says 'this is an assault on British seafaring'

Louise Haighs says P&O Ferries' behaviour is 'unforgivable' after they fired hundreds of employees over a pre recorded zoom.

The Shadow Transport Secretary says there should be reimbursement to the Government for the money they collected during furlough.

*P&O should be blacklisted for this.* No new contracts, workforce shaking their heads at any hiring no matter how desperate, boycott them into bankruptcy.
This should be a golden opportunity for operators to hire up experienced ex-P&O staff, with a view towards buying up the ships/routes/assets that'll soon be on the market on the cheap.
These big companies need to have their lesson learned the hard way that fire-rehire and devaluing employment rights is not acceptable, _with a severe price to be paid for trying it._

This has been going on since the late 90's when Agencies started to take off and UNION just allow this to keep happening, all started under Labour Governments!. My previous employer used fired and re-hire to allow them to change the terms and conditions of employment. I have always said Agencies and Zero hours are BAD for the country and it is just getting worse.
The night shift I worked on was eventually made redundant and replaced us with Agency zero hour workers who could be forced to change shits with short notice or sent home /layed off with no work. It is a digrace because these same companies continue to make millions and billions.

If workers are coming from overseas via agencies, they will need to have had visas issued, so how does the government not know about it. To get those visas they will need a certain level of salary and benefits to qualify. NHS payments must be made. The government has to know!

If there’s genuine strong feelings about the way this has been rolled out by P&O, the traveling public have the power to hit the shipping company where it hurts most, but will it happen 🤷‍♂️ hell no, they won’t put themselves out, inconvenience themselves, it’s all lip service which makes no change to steady as she goes .
