- Split the class in half, each team has their own side of the gym.
- Objective of the game: is to take the ball off the other team’s cone without being tagged, the ball must cross the half court line to score 1 point. The ball may be thrown but if the ball is thrown over the line the player who catches it must take a step back over the half court line because the ball must be stepped across the line. Both players are opposites sides are tag-able at this point.
- Every round each team must rotate their “guard”.
- The “guard” guards the ball being at least arms length away from the ball.
- The “guard” is the only player allowed to be within the 3-point arc. All other players on the team must stay on the outside of their team’s 3- point arc to help make tags to protect their side or go to the other side to get the ball or save a teammate from the “jail”.
- Players are safe and not able to be tagged when they reach the other team’s hula hoops (these are the “safe zones”)
- If a player gets tagged when going across to the other team’s side to get the ball or save a teammate from jail they must go to jail.
- Only one person at a time can be saved from “jail” and once that tag is made the players can go wherever they want in the gym.
- Both feet must be out of the hula hoop when leaving the “safe zone” to grab the ball for themselves or knock the ball out for another person to catch and begin the process of bring the ball over to their side.
- The ball may not hit the ground at any time if it does the point will not count and the ball is to be reset.
- Any player caught not following the rules will be called out and will have to go to “jail”.
- Once a point is scored that round is over, the whistle is blown and teams are to go back to their side.
- Only one player in a hula hoop at a time.

- Behavioral Expectation 1: Students will follow the rules of once they get tagged to go into the hula hoop, keeping the hula hoops at the set distance away from the cone, the “guard” staying arms length away from the ball. Also that the “guard” is the only person allowed in the 3-point arc. Must also be a new guard each round.
- Behavioral Expectation 2: No pushing, shoving, no disrespectful talk.

Great active game, our kids scored several times so I just switched sides every score and played again and kept score.

I played this game today with a group of teenagers and some small adjustments:
1. There’s no jail. A player who is tagged by an opposition player sits exactly where they were tagged until one of their team members tags them back in.
2. An attacking player who has the ball can throw it to a team-mate as long as the throw is sideways or backwards, i.e. not forwards. (Rugby passing.)
3. If an attacking player has the ball and they are touched by a defender, they sit exactly where they were tagged with the ball in their hand. Whilst they are sitting, they can throw it to a teammate as long as the throw is sideways or backwards.
4. Defending players cannot deliberately touch or intercept the ball that they are defending. If they do so, it’s an instant loss for their team.

Good game, I made a variation capture the ball(s), so many tennis balls on cones along rear. No safe zone or defenders. Same rules apply with tagging/jail. Also added ball can be thrown over the line - but prepare for PE chaos haha. Large hall or outdoor best suited.

They have to step across the line if the ball is thrown over the line to allow for a “chase”. Also once the ball is grabbed, there is no longer a 3 point line boundary for the taggers. Go tag the person with the ball, but you may be wanting to also capture your own ball on the other side!

I don't like the idea of a "jail" when getting tagged with these capture the flag-style games. Too much standing around and don't like the elimination style of it. More inclusivity and keeping cardio up is to just have said player who is tagged, to return their own side again.
