My father, Chick Taggart served on the Memphis during this time, and also told us about playing baseball and about Recife, Brazil. I remember him showing photos of German survivors of the captured U-boat being pulled from floating debris. My Dad was a Fire Controlman (FT). He passed in 1992 at age 66. He joined the Navy while in 10th grade!
