In this video I'll be telling you everything you need to know about joining the air force while married or with dependents. This video is good for people joining the air force single with kids, married with kids, or just plain married. I will discuss family separation pay, dependent housing allowance, military health care or tricare, accompanied and unaccompanied orders and on base military housing and off base housing. It's jam packed with a bunch of information so buckle up and take notes.

Thanks, Jody! I just turned 39 and passed the ASVAB and MEPS with no waivers! A bit nervous about leaving my hubby and babies behind, so this is a great help.

I’m looking to join at 30 with a wife and 16 month old. Always have wanted to serve and have found myself at a point in life where it makes a lot of sense. I really appreciate your videos, I’m trying to do as much research as possible and you condense it very nicely.

So awesome that they increased the separation pay to $400/month this year!

This advice is gold, I married with 2 kids, enlisted and leaving January 11th for bmt. Me and my wife was kinda worried about being separated after bmt not really knowing about some of the perks of having your family with you during tech. We realize that just depends on how long tech school is. But regardless we came up with plans for both accompanied and unaccompanied.

Thank you! Married with two kids and just signed into DEP. Would greatly appreciate if you could do a video with a female Airmen guest that started her military career with dependents. I've been getting a lot of crap lately for joining with kids and a husband.

Again you put out a fantastic video. It directly impacts me and my stepson. I'm 78 and live on SS benefits. He has been my legal stepson since he was 3and will be interviewing a recruiter in May to join the AF. shortly after his 18th birthday. I will be depending on him for support. Is it possible I can qualify as his dependent?

So many questions! I still have a lot of them! But great video nonetheless!

If a couple is dual military (different branches for instance Navy and Air Force), is one allowed to follow and live nearby while the other is attending tech school?

I’ve been looking into all of this cause my boyfriend and I are getting married this year and we have a baby on the way but I haven’t heard of the 12-24 month long unaccompanied tour..is that something everyone has to do?? I hate how confusing all of this is 😥😥
Forgot to mention he’s enlisting soon lol

Great info! currently married and have 2 kids. My question is once i graduate from technical school, how quickly do I have to get my family moved to my theoretical active duty location? For example, I currently rent an apartment in my hometown. Assuming my technical school is not longer than 20 weeks, should I already have my moving plan figured out before graduating tech school, or am I given time to get my personal property and family packed up and moved prior to arriving at base. Also, if there’s no on base housing available, am I able to find an apartment fairly quickly off base? Thank you
