Palpatine was basically executing the Sith plan right out in the open in the Clone Wars, but did the JEdi Order have any idea he was Sidious? The hunt of the Jedi Council for Sidious, and their theories on what his identity might be actually play a significant role in the novel Labyrinth of Evil, and the Revenge of the Sith novelization.

In these novels, particularly Labyrinth of Evil, we see the Jedi narrow down the Sith Lord to actually being someone within Palpatine’s inner circle- the Council knows they’re someone with significant access to and influence on the Chancellor, and before getting distracted by the Battle of Coruscant, the Jedi and Republic Intelligence had actually tracked Sidious to 500 Republica, a residential building on Coruscant reserved for the rich and powerful. They knew Sidious was humanoid and bipedal, with two of their key suspects being advisors Sate Pestage and Mas Ameda, according to a conversation between Mace Windu and Obi-Wan. Palpatine himself was actually not a suspect, for the sole reason that he already ruled the galaxy.

Just because Palpatine didn't immediately delcare himself Emperor after the Battle Of Naboo doesn't mean he should be ruled out as a suspect

We as audience have the benefit of hindsight. We know what Sith are. The average Jon Antilles in Star Wars universe has no idea, they were gone for too long. We see his meetings with Amidala for example so we know ousting Valorum was not her idea. Jedi were not present. Palpatine presented himself as someone who has no interest in the Force. Jedi Order High Council members knew him personally for years, at the beginning when he was acting kind and virtuous some even admired him. All his public actions could be explained as political maneuvering. And the idea that someone who has immense power would desire more is foreign thinking for Jedi. All of which Palpatine knew and used to full effect.

I like to think it was because Palpatine was so "charming".

I think it's because Palps used Sith alchemy or something to conceal his Force powers & "We would totally be aware if Palpatine was the Sith Lord, we can feel that shtuff"

This is literally the worst sense of reasoning that the Jedi Order could’ve come up with. Palpatine was making several shady moves that sent alarm bells to both the Jedi and the Senate, and the fact that the Jedi didn’t even consider Palpatine to be the Dark Lord is the height of absolute hubris.

I always find it strange that they never go into deeper detail on Palpatine's power to hide his darkness. It seems as though he was one of the only Sith to ever successfully hide in plain sight like he did.

Did he develop the technique and simply never brag about it? I find it strange that he never mocked Yoda during their fight - saying anything like "I sat in the same room as you, mere centimeters away and you were so blind you had NO IDEA!"

Perhaps it wasn't Palpatine's own power, but instead some other natural phenomena that he discovered. Something he desperately wanted kept secret from literally everyone ever. Maybe if the phenomena or the power became known, then it would not work anymore. Or at least not on those who knew the secret.

The best take I ever heard about Palpy's grand plan and the Jedi was in relation to SWTOR, I quote: "If this was SWTOR era Jedi they would be all over Palpatine the minute clones came up, he wouldn't even be a major villain, a short miniboss at best."

You missed out the old canon comics that shows a plan by a certain jedi knight and son of the previous senator of naboo plan to midiclorian test the entire senate, fatally he mentions this plan to palpatine before he asks the council and is killed when his army/fleet is caught in a ambush .it also shows palpatine was directly involved in the murder of senators previous to Phantom menace

“ The only reason Palpatine isn’t a suspect is because he already rules the galaxy “ - Mace Windu
Did they really expect Palpatine to just be ok with the position of power he already had, no that guy wanted ALL the power to himself.
