Titanium Anodizing At Home

Using an electrolyte solution and an electric current, we can create an oxide layer on the surface of titanium. The layer tricks our eyes into seeing color due to light refraction. We can increase the thickness of the oxide layer by increasing the voltage, which will change the refraction index and therefore alter the perceived color as well. Blue is obviously one of my favorite colors and can be achieved with only 27 volts.

Anodizing titanium at home is both fun, easy and relatively inexpensive.
Always use extra care when dealing with electricity.

Below is a link to a site which shows the colors you can achieve with specific voltages:

I’ve been planning on doing this to my tension wrenches instead of the coloured tape so I could quickly tell them apart. Beautiful work Snake!

This was very interesting to watch. Looks like you had a lot of fun changing the colour of all those items. They all turned out really well, cheers

how do you change the voltage? and what voltages yield which colors?
