Many think it isn't the movie she deserved, but is Doug going to be kinder or harsher on her only solo movie? Let's take a look at Black Widow.

Black Widow is a 2021 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Cate Shortland from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, and stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Olga Kurylenko, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz.

Doug the thing about Taskmaster is that he is a really funny character in the comics. He is full of one-liners and swag. He uses his powers to copy abilities and use them to make profit and train people. He is actually a really cool character. The movie did to him what X-men origins did to Deadpool, just a mindless quiet enemy that is taken out.
They could make Taskmaster into a woman and that would be fine but keep the character like he is.

I definitely loved the family stuff, I love their dinner scene and when David Harbour tries to talk to Yelena and sings her favorite song to her.

To me, if this film was released before Infinity War, it would have been much more well received. The issue here is that it was released well after Endgame, so we all knew what happened to Black Widow. As for the end credit scene, that could have been thrown in after Falcon and the Winter Soldier to build up hype for the Hawkeye series.

3:48 this guy is Taskmaster. His power is he can perfectly replicate hand to hand fight moves just from observation. He also fought all the martial arts Avengers in the comics to a stalemate until Cap kept switching up fight styles to overwhelm him. He also made a career teaching henchmen how to fight superheroes.

I really liked this movie and I enjoyed seeing Natasha’s family, especially her sister, but I felt it would’ve been better if this movie came out right after Captain America Civil War like the movie timeline explains. This coming out after Endgame and Natasha’s death just felt forced to me, like Marvel was like “Oh shit! We forgot to make this movie before we kill her off! Eh let’s just do it now.” Thats the kind of vibe it gave me.

On the sixth Disneycember, my critic gave to me:

Six long delays
FIVE POWER UPS
Four bad reboots
Three magic candles
Two Sith Lords
And a blade in the shape of a key

Taskmaster was pretty much given the Deadpool treatment...Deadpool from X-Men Origin: Wolverine treatment that is.

3:55 Here’s a crash course on Taskmaster, Doug.

In the comics, Taskmaster was a former SHIELD agent turned mercenary who has the ability to copy any moves that he sees. He’s constantly hired by many villains, & through that he has become a recurring villain to multiple heroes like Black Widow, Captain America, & Spider-Man.

The Taskmaster in this movie is not Taskmaster. She is basically Winter Soldier 2.0, & unlike Bucky she doesn’t have an interesting backstory.

I would recommend seeing clips of Taskmaster from the 2018 Spider-Man video game & Marvel’s Avengers video game, & despite the latter’s shortcomings, it at least got Taskmaster right in the character’s personality.

I liked Black Widow. Sure, it's far from being perfect or even one of the best MCU movies, but it was ok and entertaining. I liked that it was darker than most of the other MCU movies, especially during the opening credits, I couldn't believe this took place in the same universe as Thor Ragnarok, Tom Holland's Spider-man, Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. It looked more like the grittier Netflix shows. And the villain wasn't great but he was terrifyingly realistic.

I really would have loved to see more of Red Guardian's story, I mean, he was the only successful super soldier the Soviet Union was able to create, and apparently had his heyday in the late 80's and early 90's, but then got stuck doing one of those sleeper cell things with a spy family for 3 years. The timeline is also kind of funny, since it begins in 1994, which means the fake family mission thing started in 1991, the same year the Soviet Union actually collapsed, so I like to think they were stuck on that mission because the guy who authorized it forgot to recall them when the government changed. Also time travel must have been involved because he managed to get a Twilight Sparkle plush from 2014, NO I WILL NEVER LET THAT GO! THE CAMERA LINGERED ON A CLOSEUP OF THAT DOLL FOR SO LONG IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT NOTICE IT!

I think Black Widow was a great movie. However, I think the backlash comes from both how they handled Taskmaster and Marvel's return to cinema being a more quiet and dark movie compared to the other MCU movies. I think BW and Captain Marvel should have switched release dates and saved BW's post credits scene for the DVD release.

I liked that the villain was just some asshole. He didn’t have an attempt at a sympathetic backstory, he didn’t have some lines he wouldn’t cross to make him look three dimensional or something. He was just Russian Harvey Weinstein and honestly that’s refreshingly simple. He was despicable and I loved it.

The villain character, Dreykov, was shown earlier in the movie, during the Cuba scene and the opening credits. He's also played by Ray Winstone, a pretty famous British actor who usually plays tough guys, like police detectives/mobsters/etc.

It's hard to feel all that excited about the film when:
1. The main character already died a while ago
2. The film is mainly interested in introducing her successor
3. Nothing consequential happens in the movie

The film was okay good. I just wish they would’ve had Taskmaster as the main villain though. I do like the Red Guardian! I thought he was the best part of the movie!

Brandon Sanderson had an interesting take on something else that this film got wrong: Narratively, *the father should have been the one to beat Taskmaster.*

Throughout the film, he keeps going on about how he fought Captain America and won, and everyone says he's full of crap. And now they're confronted with someone who's able to copy Captain America's moves. This is a perfect setup-and-payoff, for him to finally prove himself, and it never pays off!

That is Taskmaster, he has a photographic memory that allows him to copy anything he sees. The sad thing is they actually got that part of him down pretty good. If you compare his fights with someone of Captain America and a few others in previous movies you'll see the similarities. This is still a huge failure because he doesn't have a personality in this. I'm not a comic book guy but in all the TV and video games he's been in he's good villain because of his personality, particularly his interactions with Deadpool and Spider-Man. He's manages to be both funny and intimidating. Something he's not here.

Also that cover of smells like teen spirit at the beginning was amazing in that movie

Can't wait to hear you talk about Hawkeye Doug. Specially since it is a fellow up to what happens in the post credits scene of this.

They show Drakov in the beginning and her flashback, they don't show him again until the end because the fact he is still alive is part of the drama for Nat. Not only did she help Hydra kill his innocent daughter. She did it for no reason. Her entire arc was about trying to leave her past behind and in this movie it all comes rushing back to haunt her. It's not the best MCU picture for sure, but it is way better than most are giving it credit for.
