My customer service skills frankly suck but I have tech skills. I put on my best customer service face for the interview and got hired. Tips: Learn basic networking troubleshooting (pinging, nslookup, etc.) using the command line and learn about Active Directory and virtual machines.

I'm starting training next week. I'm very nervous because I have no tech background. I'm an avid gamer and became very tech savvy over the years, so I think it's a better for me to change my career path from medical to tech.

PSA for new folks: Novice A+/N+ have a catch-22 hurdle : entry level positions requiring 2-4 years experience. The A+ is just 1/3 of the puzzle. Get the N+ is another 1/3. The final part is the most important, be an intern/volunteer at a church/school/community center for x # hours per week for several months. You need to get the name, email, business address, good phone, of that IT person you assist. That volunteer gig will be the key for your resume getting past HR madness to the recruitor. Peace.

Ahhh so happy I found your channel! Your videos are so informative.
I'm transitioning out of the military right now, and studying for CompTIA A+. Totally new to this career field. Could you describe the culture or main types of personalities you see in this career field?

The advantage of remote working is that you can apply for jobs that is far away from you because my area has virtually not many IT jobs.

You are so sweet and professional!! I loved your video. Thank you for sharing with us. It's frustrating trying to get into the job field when you've only had one job before. 😂 I'm excited to start a LinkdIn! Maybe I can get some fancy headshots taken for it!!

Thanks for the video! I am in the process of switching over from education to IT as well. I'm knocking out the Google IT support cert quickly first then I plan to study for the A+.

I worked with a Black woman that handled the help desk in the 90s. I was the computer and network tech. Sometimes we were even sent to tech classes at some vendor together. She told me that she was not interested in computers. She just learned what she had to for the job.

I started building electronics when I was in high school. I did stuff at home with computers and electronics because what most companies do with them to make money just ain't that interesting.

I have amazing soft skills and customer service and an associate degree in IT just no certification and no background job skills in IT. But I’m Def a fast learner very quick

I think my problem all my life has been that I do have TECH skills but not the "soft" skills. That makes it impossible to get the "entry level". Getting more and more technically qualified gets me more and more screwed.
