Synopsis: A comet is hurtling toward Earth and could mean the end of all human life. The U.S. government keeps the crisis under wraps, but crack reporter Jenny Lerner (Tea Leoni) uncovers the truth -- forcing U.S. President Beck (Morgan Freeman) to announce his plan. Grizzled astronaut Spurgeon "Fish" Tanner (Robert Duvall) and his team will land on the comet and lay explosives, hopefully deterring the object from its doomsday course. If not, humanity will have to prepare for the worst.

Good movie. Saw it at the drive-in when it was released in 1998, and usually see it on TV a few times a year. Morgan Freeman makes a good President with his deep commanding voice.

This is great movie. When I saw this in the theater, I left with the feeling that his movie is about 'sacrifice'. Many of the main characters give up everything for the survival of others.

If you want a realistic and dramatic asteroid movie, Deep Impact is the perfect movie for you, otherwise Armageddon would be great for the action-packed fans

The snippets of the family in what looks like a parking garage at 1:44 and again at 2:07 were completely cut from the theatrical release of the movie. I assume that they were originally part of a subplot of the family abandoning their home when they were not allowed on the bus to the Ark. The first one must have been planned to be interlaced with the scene when the President is announcing that the missiles have failed as a last resort to stop the comets and the second one is them rushing to their car to get away from the projected tidal wave.

I saw this in the cinema. I think it was great. I later watched Armageddon at home and I think it is a good movie too, but Deep impact IMO was the more realistic and better of the two.
