My 6 MUST DO THINGS in Puerto Escondido - Vlog 189

These are my 6 MUST DO things in Puerto Escondido. After over a month here I can confidently say that you can't go wrong with these activities and they will have exploring all over Puerto Escondido, doing a mix of both touristy and local only activities. I show you whale watching, food recommendation, turtle releasing, sunset spots and more. Really excited with this video and the variety, and hope you guys enjoy too!

I am going to add tip #6: one thing that sets PE apart from so many beach towns is that it is not just a pre-fab resort. There is a real Mexican downtown and mercado. The mercado is a MUST DO! First, the prices (t-shirts, beach toys, souviners and of course produce and meat) are a fraction of what you would pay in shops along the beachfront. But, more importantly, it is fascinating! You could spend all day looking at the food, people watching and soaking up the authentic atmosphere. There are very few tourists in the mercado (and tiangis near the the mercado on Sunday). It is a slice of life that you will not see in most beach towns.

We caught about 30 tuna in a hour in Puerto, hired a Mariachi band and had a big BBQ on the beach. Good times!

Are these trips/tours toddler friendly?

I found my way back to this video after our second big trip to PE (Dec. 2019 - Jan 2020) and have more tips: go to the Tower Bridge Hostel (in Bacocho) and ask about their excursions. On Fridays, for 300 pesos each, they take a group inland to a gorgeous waterfall. When we arrived, there was no one there. The waterfall is about 20 meters or more and there is an area for swimming and rock jumping. The drive to and from, in the mountains, was gorgeous. We also stopped in the historic town of San Pedro Mixtepec where we wandered around and even went to the top of the church bell tower for a view. You can also book whale watching and other activities through the hostel whether you stay there or not. Highly recommended!
