In this video, I take you through what the Driver pre-shot routine would be and then we go through the thought process a little bit more in detail depending upon the certain hole.

So in terms of course management here, out on the course and the tee box, what I want to talk about is just pre-shot routine. So, I'm on a tee box here on a par four.

I like to start behind the ball doing two practice swings back a couple paces behind the ball. When I'm doing my practice swings, I'm looking to create a feel that I'm going to hit the shot with. I'm not overly mechanical. I like to do a half swing and then the second one goes into a full swing. After I do my two swings, I face the target and here's where the process really starts.

The first thing I'm going to do is find an intermediate target. I'm looking for something two to three feet in front of my golf ball in line with where I'm trying to go. I'm going to pick that as my intermediate target that I'm going to focus on to help my aim.

Right after I pick my intermediate target, I visualize my shot. I'm visualizing the ball going up in the air. I'm visualizing it coming down and I'm visualizing it landing. Some people will see the whole flight of the ball. Some people see that red shot tracer line or some people can't see the flight and they'll just see the ball landing.

After I visualize, I go ahead and walk up to the ball. As I'm walking up to the ball, my main focus now is my breathing. I want to put a conscious thought in for me to replace and avoid anything else popping up in my mind. I think about breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. As I'm walking up to the ball, I'm making sure I'm telling myself to go slow and I'm breathing in through my nose, out through my mouth.

Once I’m at the ball, I line my club face up to my target and I line my feet to that. I'm looking at the target and I'm lined up to that. Now I'm going to look up at my target once, shuffle with a little waggle look back at the ball, look at my target, back to the ball. And then I'm going to hit.

And that is my normal routine on every single shot – every tee shot, every fairway shot, ever second shot.

I put this routine into practice 2 rounds ago and the results have been amazing to me. I have hit 20 of 28 fairways most of which have been right on my chosen line. I'm using it on all shots from tees and fairways. The breathing exercise and slow walk to the ball clears my mind of extraneous thoughts/worries. Highly recommend you employ this routine.

Easily the best content online. Love your stuff my man. Trying to find a way to make sure my skins game group doesn’t find this so they can keep the money flowing my way lol. You’ve been my secret weapon.

Good description on pre-shot routine and feel thoughts. The routine really doesn't take a lot of time and is necessary.

Eric. Love your way of explaining the golf swing. Could you do a video on lead arm depth? I’m confused as to if I need more of it or less of it.

Excellent video as usual! I always have trouble with understanding target line, start line, and which to setup to. perhaps you could do a video explaining this part of the routine in more detail. my intention is to setup to start line and feel the ball shaping towards my intended target. thanks for the great content keep it up!

What is disadvantage of taking Practice shot on left side of the ball ( assuming right hand player facing target )? Most of us do that only.

Never did practice shot behind the ball. Will try on course. It should work.

Excellent Eric. One question: when in that pre-shot routine did you work on your swing tempo? Do you mean just breathing and reducing anxiety? For example, I do the coca-cola mantra when I start messing up my tempo but that is on the real swing

Hi Eric do you do swing analysis ??
And if so I was wondering if my swing is quite right ?
Low and left I’m being told at the mo to get the best impact / follow thru position? If not
Would be great to see a video on this as I’m getting mixed messages !! Cheers mate 😁

Hi. In this video I saw you wrists in a different position on your club. It looks like your left wrist is cocked forward at setup. Is this something we should do. I practiced my swing this way and it seems like I was able to stop flipping my hands at impact without trying not to flip. Bob Myrtle Beach.
