You got the layers wrong - clay is made of the finest particles so it is on top

looks like standard San Diego *dirt* i find in everyone's yard . . . but am confused. i know when rubbed wet like that it's gritty, but it does form plopping clumps like that. Sandy and clay? i get so confused with our dirt here; it's loose and dusty on top, then solid (as you demonstrated) underneath so you need a pick-ax to dig down.

Your Jar method test is not as accurate as you think - the jar should be uniform - your one isn't. You've copied this from somewhere else and not done a very good job of it.
