Test your soil to see if it's acidic or alkaline!

Garden soils are often described as acidic (sour) or alkaline (sweet). Unfortunately, the meanings of these terms and their relationship to plant growth are not clearly understood by some gardeners. The relative acidity or alkalinity of soil is indicated by its pH. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14. Any pH reading below 7 is acidic and any pH above 7 is alkaline. A pH of 7 indicates a neutral soil. The pH is important because it influences the availability of essential nutrients. Most horticultural crops will grow satisfactorily in soils having a pH between 6 (slightly acid) and 7.5 (slightly alkaline).

Thank you for this. I'll try it! I've never tested my soil : / because every time I think about how complicated it sounds, and having to buy another thing, I lose interest. Sad, I know. I like simple, and even if as one comment below points out, I won't know how far into acid or alkaline my soil is, I'll know a whole lot more than I have in the past! So, thanks!!!!

Adding your soil in water mixed with Turmeric helps detect your soil type too! If colour is yellowish= acidic/neutral soil, if plants have brown spots= acidic. If colour is reddish= alkaline soil
Sorry if I'm wrong.

So either test will tell u if ur soil is acidic or not. Or alkaline or not. Different tests: same results, in a sense.

By a battery powered PH probe
So you don't guess a number and actually know how to amend your soil then can track progress by testing again

Thank you very informative. Do you know how to treat clay ground in order to get it to a good foil for planting crops? Blessings G 😇

No bubbles in either test with my soil Does that mean it's neutral?

Why you stir the baking soda more than the vinegar? Stirring it that long caused more bubbles

The vinegar and baking soda by themselves will cause the bubbling.
