The world's top climate scientists read thousands of peer-reviewed studies so they could answer your questions. Here's what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says about global warming — the problem, the solutions and the barriers to fixing it.

00:00 Introduction
00:25 Are humans changing the climate?
00:53 Is climate change bad?
01:30 Can we stop climate change getting worse?
02:04 How bad will climate change get?
02:43 Is crossing 1.5 degrees Celsius the end of the world?
03:14 Can we adapt to climate change?
03:42 Could climate change be worse than we think?
04:23 Can we trust the IPCC?
05:28 When do we need to stop climate change?
06:13 How can we stop climate change?
06:51 When do we need to reach net-zero emissions?
07:28 How do we reach net-zero emissions?
08:01 What solutions are there for climate change?
09:04 Can we remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere?
09:51 Can we keep burning fossil fuels?
10:31 Is there good news about climate change?
11:08 Can capitalism solve climate change?
11:56 Does consumerism affect the environment?
12:42 Is my carbon footprint bad for the environment?
13:33 What are the best ways to stop climate change?
14:13 Is stopping climate change too expensive?
14:48 Are targets to reach net-zero by 2050 enough?

these are questions lots of people ask about climate change - what other questions do you have?

Isn't the role of farming/agriculture just as big as that of the fossil fuel industry with regards to the climate destabilization? Farming also has other negative effects like habitat destruction, biodiversity loss, species extinction, water pollution and loss, soil destruction. I am sure that the IPCC people know this very well.

This is what I've been looking for, breaking down the IPCC's most important messages giving the audience an easily digestable science snack. Looking forward to the next video! One additional question to ask and answer: "Why should I do more, when other's don't?"

Thank you for analysing this much more thoroughly than I have been able to this week. Great, clear explanations and visuals. My comments:

0:48 human activity accounts for 'pretty much all of the warming' from late 19th century; probably slightly more than all the warming according to SYR SPM footnote 7?
1:33 can we stop it getting worse? Is it a simple 'yes'? It will still get worse than now, it's how much worse... you make this clear though.

9:53 Important to emphasise that existing and planed fossil fuel infrastructure breaks the Paris agreement, even the higher global commitment, 'well below 2 °C' (SYR B.5.3 seems to have weakened this to 83% - why?). You can conclude either that any new fossil fuel infrastructure needs 'additional abatement', or there shouldn't be any new fossil fuel infrastructure and some should be. Is there any chance of an international Compulsory Take-Back Obligation, or anything on production emissions and pricing at source?

Compared to SYR SPM, I think WG2 was much more cautious about overshoot, and SRCCL seemed to warn strongly against BECCS. The social obstacles to sustainability in WG3, explained at 14:50, seem not to have made it through to SYR . Hard to see governments prioritising carbon dioxide removal policy as anything more than a token fig leaf until huge damage is done, and then we don't know the result. Just stop going in the wrong direction...

Fantastic video, Ajit. Very well explained. A single comment: Would it be possible to display page numbers for the individual quotes from the IPCC reports, maybe just in the video description?

The report says we’ll exceed 1.5°C in the 21st century. That’s ludicrous. We’re likely to go over 1.5 temporarily (for a few months or even an entire El Niño year like this year or next) in the next 5 years, & almost certain to pass it permanently by 2040, maybe even 2035.

Just look at the rate of increase over the past 50 years & the recent rate of ongoing acceleration.

Net zero 2050 has been widely condemned by scientists, activists & smart people as ridiculously inadequate. It is, essentially, a con; a way to delay all real action & only pretend anything close to addressing the true direness of the crisis is happening.
