It was literally stated in the manga goku was winning cause of his experience… gohan is stronger than goku but gokus experience makes him a better fighter and more likely to win the fight… stronger doesnt equal win the fight… i can be stronger than a random in the comment section and faster, but that dont mean me with 1 year of basketball can beat him with 15 years of basketball knowledge, training, & playing…. Toriyama's exact words were "Gohan is actually stronger than anyone...or so it's said, but lately he hasn't really gotten a chance to shine. In order to motivate Gohan, it takes his revered teacher Piccolo rather than his father Goku. I figured I'd try giving birth to a new superhero by putting these two in the spotlight through their intense battles with the Gamma androids." He never said he is the strongest flat out. When he said that he didn't mean Gohan is actually at a higher power level than Goku and Vegeta. He was referring to Goku initially stating in Z that Gohan is stronger and can be the strongest if he trains. Goku believed this even when he was more powerful than Gohan. Yes, Beast is very powerful, but not even Toriyama confirmed whether or not he was stronger than Goku at this point. He inferred towards this. It was his plan to make the series shine on two characters he loved the most. He loves piccolo and wanted Gohan to take up the mantle his father left behind originally. This movie and the Manga gave way to let them stand in the light, but no matter what anyone says in the end Toriyama has always made Goku and Vegeta stronger. And if you take into account that Gohan doesn't ever train like he should and Goku and Vegeta and Broly do, he will one day be outclassed again. He might be up there now, but soon enough he won't. Instead of being salty who is right or wrong, be glad we got to see what Toriyama intended for his cast of characters in this current arc. And carry on with the journey as they continue to develop until the Manga is finished. Either they will respect the desire of Toriyama at heart and make Gohan and Piccolo among the strongest, or it will continue with Goku and Vegeta at the top. And if it does go that way, don't be salty. Gohan didn't earn the vast majority of his power, he literally picks up buffs mid game and runs down mid like a crackhead. I like Gohan, but it's true. So shut up and keep reading the damn Manga.

The whole point of beast was to finally crown Gohan like Toriyama wanted to do after the android saga. You can argue all you want but nothing matters more than the creators intention and he always intended for Gohan to be the goat.

Here's what literally happened:

They were evenly matched on the chapter the fight started, both were clearly holding back.

On the next chapter Goku powers up (people tend to forget he powered up before Gohan) and at that point Gohan can't hit Goku anymore, and Goku lands many hits.

Then Gohan powers up and starts completely overwhelming Goku's UI and eventually hits him twice with the 2nd hit knocking him out of UI.

Goku is a bit damaged, but he's able to go back to UI without much effort.

Goku glances a Broly and decides tp stop because its a good opportunity for Broly to train.

So a lot of people are saying "Gohan went full power while Goku was holding back", well the DB official website literally states that both were fighting at full power, so there's that. And the conclusion here is quite simple, Gohan is stronger than Goku, but it's not by a large margin, and Goku can make up the difference with skill, so who would win? I think it could go either way, in this spar I think Gohan could've won if he followed up the punch that knocked Goku out of UI. But in general I genuinely think it can go either way.

The beginning of the fight it seems that Vegeta assumes that Gohan is stronger than Goku, yet the skill wielded with ultra instinct, was making the fight at the beginning go in Goku's favor. This is why Vegeta says Goku's experience, and Ultra instinct, were tilting the battle in his favor. Then everyone is shocked when Gohan powers up further with his rage, and uses it to overcome the speed gap. Gohan clearly has more raw power. Vegeta's speech at the beginning of Super hero arc, is about not just having more power, but using it more efficiently, and controlled. This chapter was focusing on that as well. Beerus talks about control. Experience can make a difference.
