I have an akita. We adopted him from Battersea dogs home 5 years ago. 2 years after we got him he saved my life. I had a cardiac arrest in the street while out walking him. He got free of the lead and found someone to help me. The person he found did cpr on me for 29 minutes before the emergency services arrived.

I live with a Japanese Akita Inu whose now 11 yrs old. I received him as a gift when I turned 6. For his old age, he is a very hyper dog but for most of his life he’s been a very calm dog minding his own business but alert when strangers are near. His aura is strong and he’s a very emotional dog. One time we left him at home for 2 days but forgot to say goodbye to him ( we always do). We arrived to see him crying and watery eyes. He ignored us for a week. As an only child, I consider him my brother. I apologize if you read this thinking something was going to blow you away, I just felt like sharing my story. If you have any questions about my Akita, feel free to ask.

I have my Akita from Japan. He is the calmest, most loyal, and most unwavering dog I've ever had. However, his training was difficult, he did not want to listen to me for a while, but now we are one heart and one soul. I love him very much. :)

My Akita Yoshi was the most loyal animal I've ever come across. He was also incredibly crafty, like, really crafty . He was always thinking . Mostly how to do something he wasn't supposed to be doing, but it was one of his most endearing qualities. Amazing breed of dog . He lived until 17 years old which for a large breed is quite long . I miss him everday .

Akita are bred to think independently, and must be raised as a family member, not a pet. This subtle difference brings out their incredible personalities. Positive reinforcement is a must, only gentle, occasional, rebukes when training.
the opening shot of both breeds on either side is an epic image.

Whenever I threw a ball for the Akita that deemed me worthy of being his human, he would do one of two things. Either follow the ball and take it somewhere or give me a look that said "Fetch? What do you mean fetch? You threw it away, if you want it, you go and get it". I loved him so much, he was my best friend. I have his ashes in an urn by the front door where he spent most of his time. He was a smokey grey and his name was Marshall, but he used to get Moo.

I've had Akita since he was 8 months old...he had basic command training, and some tactical training...but the one thing that he does that is worth more than all that training put together is alert me to when i am about to have seizures...he was never trained for it. He is my world and I thank God he was put in my life!

Shiba Inu pictures were shown twice as Akita. They kind of look alike, but just notice that the Akitas don't have the red colour going all the way down to their nose, whereas Shibas do.

My first dog was an Akita, who lost two yeas ago. Absolutely loved cats, in a good way, the neighbours cat used to jump the fence, wander in and say hello to him, that's when he (the cat) wasn't snuggling up to him when he was on his bed, he would also come a walk with us now and again, closing in for protection from any other dogs that were around.

Took him in, as the breeder didn't want him and he didn't have a home to go to. Was warned about not letting males mix, his best mate was another male Akita (not related to him), another neighbours dog, would bare teeth at him, he would just stand there as if to say you don't bother me.

I’ve always loved the Akita Inu. I had no idea there’s an American version! One thing he didn’t mention is that Akitas are very adept escape artists & not inclined to return home due to their independence. 2 neighbors down from us have a beautiful Akita Inu who escapes his 7-8ft fence whenever he decides that’s what’s on his to do list for a particular day. He’s quite jovial, (at least he’s always been w/us), so we’ve been fortunate that at least one of us has been outside at the same time he is every time he’s escaped, able to return him safely home while he’s enjoying our affection. You can see the mischievous intelligence in his eyes. Absolutely fabulous, stunning dog. We’re happy to have him for a neighbor 😊.

Adopting my akita was the best thing I’ve ever done, I couldn’t imagine my life without her now even after eating our sofa and every doormat we have bought lol

I’m so happy to see you spotlight the Akita. I have a male Akita that I adopted. He’s so intelligent, so kind and gentle, and very obedient. Which surprises people everywhere we go. He just has his yearly exam (weighing in at 116lbs) at the vet yesterday and they always tell me how’s he’s just the most obedient dog that comes into the office.

Akita: "I am independent."
Also Akita: waited 9 years by a train station for his master.
