Why do Airplane Windows have Tiny Holes?
When an airplane starts climbing upwards, the air pressure outside starts dropping.
But, in order to keep the passengers safe, airplanes maintain the internal air pressure.
Thus, there exists a huge air pressure difference.
Now, air from high pressure area starts moving to low pressure area, putting a lot of stress on the airplane windows.
Airplane windows are made up of outer, middle and inner panes.
The inner pane simply protects the other panes.
The middle pane actually consists of tiny holes.
Also, there exists an air gap between the middle pane and the outer pane.
Now, these tiny holes help in balancing the air pressure between the passenger cabin and the air gap.
Hence, thanks to the tiny holes, the outer panes face the brunt of cabin pressure in a gradual manner during the flight.
The tiny holes also help in releasing moisture from the air gap, thus preventing frosting of the windows.
