How to lay concrete pavers using a mold

Ever wondered how concrete pavers are made and how sometimes they manage to look so random and yet to fit perfectly together like pieces of a puzzle? It’s quite simple actually. The secret is a concrete paver mold. It lets you create a cool pattern and to lay multiple pavers at once and all you need is the mold and your concrete mix.

I have that mold and only filled in each individual opening one time. After that I noticed the stones separated, so I changed gears and laid the concrete out evenly and used the mold as a deep “stamp” over the top of the concrete. Worked great, looked great and no separation of stones.

If you do it like this the path will move, sink, crack and slowly disintegrate into a dusty mess. First, make sure to have a solid (compacted) aggregate (stone) sub base. Then mix concrete 4 sand and stone (all in) mix to 1 cement add colour to the mix make sure it is the exact same amounts each time you make a mix, use buckets or plastic containers for sand, cement, colour and water with every mix. IMPORTANT always use the same cement, never change to a different manufacture (if Blue Circle cement, keep it blue circle cement) as the mix will be a different colour with different cement. Don't make the mix too wet or too dry. Level the concrete and wait until the top of the concrete starts to set (a little crusty), but not let it go hard. Use supported scaffolding planks, on cement or ash blocks to go above the concrete, making sure not touch the mix, then use the mold as a stamp only, don't go too deep, you just want the pattern. This will give you a solid path that will last for years. Don't go too deep and don't fill the gaps in the pattern, as you can brush or wash the dirt/dust and any weeds growing in the dirt/dust gaps out over time.

I used just reg sacrete 60 lb bags cement fast cure will work too, mix in 2.5/3 soupy mix, liters water, , with scoop pour cement in each cavity one at time bring to top level, fill a few then gently tap form to help cement flow into corners, complete all cavities, then tap all around filling any voids at last, let set for approx hour, then gently wiglle pull straight up on form slowly !! then go next ! P/S u can spray pam cooking oil around inside of form to aid in setting to help lift out easier but not necessary !!

Wish you could have showed when you took the mold off. Maybe gave directions or a time length of how long the mold should sit. Oh and a finished look perhaps 🤷🏻‍♀️

Imagine how pleased Elon Musk will be when he radios the news to his Mars colony that this man has finished his driveway.

O my gosh, the patience for that one mold. I could have laid many squares in these 3 minutes. I wanted to use this molding method as a cheaper alternative, but I dont think I have the patience.

Why is almost everyone in the comments all about how long it will take to finish an entire area? This is not something new and it's not like you have to wait for the cement to completely dry to be able to move on to the next one. 🤦

So how long does that mold stay on? That looks like it would take a month of Sundays to cover any significant area.

I just got one of these molds. Was thinking to use like stamp. So is it a stamp or a mold? Sold as mold but use like stamp? Guess I’ll see when I give it a go.

I was looking for a video that would include step by step instructions, not creepy banjo music that reminded me of the movie deliverance.
