Zoloft is an antidepressant which belongs to the class of medications know as the SSRIs - selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The chemical name of zoloft is sertraline. It works by increasing the availability of a chemical in your brain known as serotonin.
Zoloft comes in liquid form and tablets. The tablets come in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg strengths. Zoloft has a long half life and what this means is that it can be given once a day, usually in the mornings.
Zoloft is used to treat mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, panic disorder, ptsd - post traumatic stress disorder, ocd - obsessive compulsive disorder, and pmdd - Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
Zoloft can cause side effects side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea , constipation and stomach aches. It can also cause decrease in sex drive/loss of libido, difficulty having an orgasm/anorgasmia and difficulty with an erection in men/erectile dysfunction. Other side effects include fatigue and anxiety.
Zoloft also has a black box warning like most antidepressants.
