I moved to Singapore exactly with these things in mind, and I do NOT regret a bit!

I'm so thankful to be Singaporean and living in a safe and peaceful country. Look at what's happening around the world!

I love living in Singapore! Please allow me to comment that one statement in your great report is fundamentally wrong in my view. Police presence is not visible, I have hardly seen a blue light and never heard a siren. Enforcement of fundamental physical security is much more subtle. Above all, I feel much more free than in my native Europe because I guess I will never break any rule with my natural behaviour. That is because the rules make sense and are just logically applied. Being drunk is definitely not a problem in Singapore, just don’t disturb the others. I find it always funny when some friends from the West think Singapore is a policing state where you have to be on your guard not to breach the rules; after 4 years in Singapore, and many nights out with my numerous local friends, I rather feel free and relaxed when I come back to Singapore from any other country.

Only offenders and criminals need to fear the law.

As a female, I usually feel safe when I come back late at nite alone. Now, living overseas, I don't come out at nite when is dark Even in the day, I am very aware who is around me. Singapore definitely has gone the right way
Vandalism, thieving and destructions of properties that doesn't belong to you is wrong. You know is wrong, so you have to pay the price for it. No double standards.

Michael Fay did not vandalised one or two public signages but hundred of such items. This point is sorely missed out by the major news media! Minor vandalism is met with small fine only. The public cameras are not meant for surveillance but due to aging population where fewer young people are available for the police force. Singapore thrives on pragmatism and not brutalism of the laws.

Why should we change our way of life to accommodate the needs of thugs and criminals? I ride my bike in the middle of the night for hours without having to worry about my safety. I can wear my luxury watches without having to worry about being robbed. I don't have to worry about being shot or stabbed for no reason. I can live in Europe, I can live in the States. But I choose to live here. Safety means everything to us.

There is no trade off. Singapore is a country that can guarantee the freedom of all its citizens. Laws are not draconian. They are enforced without fear or favour.

If you are a Singapore citizen or a foreigner who has lived in Singapore for some time and has experienced the eye-popping difference of what it is like to live here compared to in the US or Europe, you will probably agree that good men must be willing to take tough measures to do what is necessary and sometimes ugly things to keep law-abiding people safe. Only would-be criminals and bad people take issues with tough laws and severe penalties. Good people have no problem at all with strict laws and harsh punishments. Because strict laws and harsh penalties do not affect good people. An American Talk Show host made a video to talk about Singapore's stance on undesirable social behaviour and he explained very succinctly why Singapore is Singapore and Philadelphia is Philadelphia. Enjoy this video.

See what happened to the delegates of Olympics in Paris. The humanistic way is not to commit crimes as they benefit us but destroy others. Look as US, France etc., lenient to criminals but cruel to the victims, also encourage criminals to repeat crimes. They go to prison and enjoy free food and shelter. I am a citizen of Singapore and happily living here because all the strict laws protect me and my fellow Singaporeans. Say what you want, you are not a Singaporean. If I became a victim, you will never be helping me and keep on criticizing my country.

I once left my laptop for an hour at Starbucks.

I came back to find it fully charged and repacked in its original box.

That was an intense narration of the Singapore judicial system. Yes, we do have strict rules and regulations and most people abide by them. As a Singaporean, I am grateful our island nation is a safe place to live/work in. However, being labelled ‘safest country’ does not mean we have zero crime. Nonetheless, it’s this exact ‘system’ that has kept misdemeanor to a minimum.

Untrue! There is no heavy police presence!
In fact, police were rarely seen around in one's daily routine around the island!

I believe most people will gladly give up some freedom to be able to feel safe, walking home at 3am alone.

Often to attain good safety in the entire society, draconian laws need to apply to deter criminals.
