These People Had No Clue What The Sun Did To Their Skin
“We have a range of terrible excuses for forgetting to put on sunscreen—from being in a rush, to not wanting to get our hands oily (there’s a spray for that, people), to believing that the sun’s rays are entirely blocked when it’s overcast.”

VIDEO: Ultraviolet camera shows sun damage hidden beneath your skin’s surface
“If you could glance into the future to see your older self, would you?”

How Sunburns and Sun Tans Work
“Sunlight arrives on earth in three forms: infrared (heat), visible light and ultraviolet.”

Tanning: Fast Facts
“Fair-skinned people usually burn rather than tan in the sun because they lack melanin, which is responsible for a tan's coloring.”

A fifth of adults think they can’t get sunburnt if they already have a tan
“More than one in five UK adults do not believe they can get sunburnt if they already have a tan, according to a new survey.”

Some Color Shades Offer Better Protection Against Sun’s Ultraviolet Rays
“Economy-minded consumers who want protection from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays -- but rather not pay premium prices for sun-protective clothing -- should think blue and red, rather than yellow.”

The evolution of human skin coloration
“Skin color is one of the most conspicuous ways in which vary and has been widely used to define human races.”

The Evolution of Human Skin and Skin Color
“Humans skin is the most visible aspect of the human phenotype. It is distinguished mainly by its naked appearance, greatly enhanced abilities to dissipate body heat through sweating, and the great range of genetically determined skin colors present within a single species.”

Ultraviolet and Infrared Photography Summarized
“A large part of the spectrum and its relationship to the world around us is invisible because we are limited to seeing electromagnetic wavelengths which extend only from those characteristic of violet-blues to those of the deep reds.”

Repair (and Even Reverse) Signs of Sun Damage
“Are you concerned about wrinkles, brown spots, and leathery skin?”

Skin Cancer Rates by Race and Ethnicity
“The rate of people getting melanoma of the skin or dying from melanoma of the skin varies by race and ethnicity.”

How Does Sunscreen Work?
“Sunscreen combines organic and inorganic chemicals to filter the light from the sun so that less of it reaches the deeper layers of your skin.”

Sunblock poses potential hazard to sea life
“The sweet and salty aroma of sunscreen and seawater signals a relaxing trip to the shore. But scientists are now reporting that the idyllic beach vacation comes with an environmental hitch.”

Why would anyone use a tanning bed ever? It's like using a cheese grader on your face to look better

When I was younger my mom would always tell me to stay out of the sun because she didn’t like the way I would get too dark. As I grew up I would do everything to stay out of direct sunlight because I was self conscious about it. When I was 30 I had my blood work done and found out the reason I was extremely fatigued along with other stuff was from being extremely deficient in vitamin D-3. You can get this vitamin from the sun and supplements. I take D-3 and enjoy the sun for a minimum of 10 or 15 minutes a day.

I'm from the Philippines. I came from a community of fishermen, our skin is always exposed to sun more than 5hrs everyday since childhood but no one in our entire community had experienced skin cancer even the adults. We never use sunscreen not even once. Majority in our people don't know what sunscreen is because we never use it.

Love how he says 'dark skinned humans'. Shows how science and knowledge destroys racism and unnecessary labels.

Sunlight is just like food, oxygen, and water. Too much can be harmful, even deadly.

Can you do a video regarding what happens when you don't get enough sunlight exposure / hardly ever go outside.

Is the sun that big fiery thing in the sky? If so, I think I've seen it once or twice when I was forced to go outside. That thing is scary, , ,

I stayed out of the sun for 17 years because i spent so much time in the sun as a kid and a lifeguard as a teenager. I started to develop serious pain and chronic insomnia. Turns out, I became vitamin D deficient and have serious fribromyalgia. My pain was so bad in my hips and legs that I would just cry sometimes. I started seeing a holistic doctor and she suggested I get out in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day during the peek hours, 10-2, with as much skin exposed as possible. I cant do that because of work, so i went to a tanning bed for a month. After 3 weeks of tanning 3x’s a week, I started sleeping better and my pain was so much less intense. I got a tanning bed of my own and have been almost pain free and sleep more than I have in years. I feel so much better, and like having some color too! Everything in moderation!

As a dark brown guy I see my skin as solar cells absorbing and storing the light and nutrients of sun and later converting it to ENERGY.... Sound familiar?

Sun may harm us but it also helps us, such as helping us gain some good ol' vitamin D and helps prevent depression. Ill take that for -5 years of my life.

You really probably should have at least mentioned the importance of sunlight exposure for vitamin D so ppl don't run and hide from the sun completely. As a nocturnal creature I know first hand the effects of low vitamin D can be severe. When I *do* get out in the sun, even just a bit I feel amazing, energised and my mood improves instantly. My fellow Hermits need to be encouraged to get *more* exposure to the sun so we are not so lazy and grumpy.
