It's not only North America and Europe, Indonesia, Turkey and many other countries are beginning to impose tariffs on many Chinese products, they are seeing their industries having troubles to compete against very unfair China´s trade practices and China isn´t buying from them either. Mexico is also about to impose tariffs on Chinese products as well.

Did you know: China’s high speed rail industry cannot make their own bearings or wheels? They had been importing these items from Japan and Germany, but that has dried up and their trains are falling apart. 🤦‍♂️

The biggest threat is to Elon Musk's vehicle sales. Of course N. America has to protect Elon Musk from less expensive E-cars.

Sadly the Americans import basic daily goods like masks, medicines and clothes from China. The life of the American people will become more difficult if the price of the imported goods goes up.

The Chinese are not interested in buying their own EVs after China stopped subsidizing these cars. Then China tried to dump these vehicles in the US and Canada. Wherever possible I boycott Chinese products. I'd rather have quality goods, not trash goods.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the fact of the accusation of Chinese currency manipulation as being a big factor in why the US wants to introduce tariffs.
