GAMES Module: Shelter In Place Entertainment | Bug Out Bag

During a bug out situation, you may find yourself in a period of time when you are having to shelter in place for an extended period of time while you wait out an emergency situation. During that kind of situation, it would be nice to have some entertainment options that does not require power to help keep the morale up of you and your family. This Games Module is optional due to the extra weight, but could be included in a bug out bag if your evacuation situation could benefit from it (e.g., bugging out with kids). I have created a PDF of instructions for popular card games, dominoes, and Yahtzee that you can include with your bug out bag, store on an E-Reader, or as a file on your smartphone.

A set of dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20) a laminated character sheet (for reference to draw more), some paper, and some pencils. Apocalypse D&D!

Other small games...LCR and pass the pigs. It would also be nice to have a small pad of paper and additional pencils for other games like dots, hangman, tic tac toe and to keep score of games.

Excellent!!! We also have a few conversation starter questions, riddles and poems memorized for entertainment. They have come if very handy when waiting in line when there are kids around. Also, we've had fun taking a small piece of paper, folding it in thirds, then 3 people take turns drawing the head, body and legs of a person/creature. We make sure to fold it in such a way that the person drawing cannot see the other parts. Very hilarious to see how they turn out.

And I use the micro pocket Farkle. We kept it micro but upgraded it to the larger Spicy Farkle with a few touches of red nail polish. The scoring chart is tiny and I laminated it. Take it everywhere. And have added two more tiny dice for if one gets lost ever.
Thanks for posting.

I've also made a small altoids "toy box" to hold balloons, crayons, coloring sheets, and pipe cleaners and added reflective tape and an emergency whistle. If you're in a dire situation, the worst thing to do is anything that can make it worse. If you have young ones in your party, in a flash you can go from "needing to be rescued" to "needing to mount a rescue" -- a few things like this can go a very long way to occupy little ones and keep them from wandering off.

I have a Nintendo Switch in my bag. Since it has a charges off of a USB-C, I can use my battery pack and solar panels to give it juice.

Great ideas for games. I never thought about a storage facility for a bug out location, but what a great idea! Suburban areas you can get a storage unit for a fairly good price. It could also be a place to store all your extra preps if you had to bug out to a different location. Also, a good meeting spot for family when coms are down. Thank you for all your good ideas!

Our 'go to' travel game is the Left, Right and Centre Dice Game. Some times we swap the counters for coins and play for money too! It's such a simple game, definitely worth considering!

What the world needs is playing cards with multiple games printed on them. I've seen a deck with Domino tiles but it would be great to have other ones like uno and such.

I’m always include a deck of cards with my bags. Used to pack coloring books when my kids were younger. Good idea to add Yahtzee. A few dice and some paper/pencils is easy enough.

Good Ideas, Great Video. I have always kept a deck of cars in my vehicle since I first started driving. Great for when you get stranded somewhere or need a break while camping out. The items you put here are similar to a pack I have with my camping gear. There are a huge number of Dice Games besides Yahtzee that can be played... Be happy to send a list of some that I include with a set of Lawn Dice I make.
Another easy option would be a set of Tangrams, hours to make designs and various shapes.

UNO is huge in this house. We also love dominoes. I've also seen mini scrabble. Lots of mini games are coming out these days. Great ideas! I'll be putting one of these together. I have a deck of cards in my bag, but a whole entertainment bag would be nice.

Good choice of games, TUP. All are great for fun and killing time in a group. Like if you are stuck in some shelter, not knowing when or if you'll be rescued. They'll put smiles on people's faces for a brief moment in a dark time.

May I add that many famous games only requires a pen and some paper?

And, speaking of paper, for some children drawing is a great way to temporarily escape from reality. So, I would absolutely recommend a good notebook and some pencils. When drawing, children can entertain themselves for hours. And it can help them to better process the traumatic situation surrounding them.

(Paper can also be used to draw maps of an unknown area, or as tinder, or as toilet paper, or for writing messages when coms are down, or for covering windows, so the zombies won't see you.)

And while the kids are drawing, the adults can talk about how the hell we're gonna get out of this mess!! :-D

I seriously doubt that my kids, 7 and 15 would survive any bugout situation for more than 2 hours without 4G network and fully charged smartphone... Oh well.. Great video 😅

great video, for once someone talked about entertainment, its true that a bug out situation is not necessarily living alone in the forest and eating worms lmao
my personal "game" module is as follows:
- a mini deck of card
- a mini rubikscube
- 5 dices
- the pigs from the game Pass the pigs (its a very fun game for all ages)
- i also like to carry a small boucing ball (Steve McQueen style in the movie The Great Escape)
- of course paper and pencil
- and my persoanl entertainment: i love math riddles, so im noting down tons of equations and math riddles of all sorts on a piece of paper, that i have seen over the years, but i dont write down the answers. Eventually it would keep my mind busy to try those riddles again. Example: AAA + BBB + CCC = BAAC, find A and B and C
