You can also get door closers - they can be set to delay the close and speed of closure

You can buy these hinges and have been able to for 50 years or more. They're not expensive and their adjustable so they don't cause the door to slam.

As someone who does a bit of carpentry this is sacrilege, firstly those hinges where fire rated with ball bearings inside. Secondly the hinges are supposed to be on the inside of the door cut in so they blend seamlessly into the door

Just buy a spring hinge. That little spring is not going to last.

The hinges on the internal doors in my mother's home are designed to cause the door to close automatically, but without needing a spring. How? The two parts of the hinge dovetail together in a simple helix shape. This way as gravity pulls the door down, it causes the door to close.
