My suggestions:
1.work at desk or table with good light source
2. Use tweezers, avoid finger contact all together
3. When soaking the waterside, don’t dunk it in a bowl. Use a very shallow Pyrex or margerine lid, and use warm water
4. When applying decal place the white adhesive paper from the decal back in the water, and you can actually use it to move the decal even once it’s dried or laid out, you simply soak the white paper and place it on top of the decal and the decal will raise enough to very gently use tweezer to move it left or right or up or down. And then can also be used as a slippery and soft method of flattening any wrinkles or bubbles without brutalizing the ink on the decal.

I’ve had many similar issues with finding decals and learned the hard way about the suggestions I’ve listed above.

Happy building.

I've bought these exact decals from the same company you did. They are 100% accurate to the individual year. You'd think for someone who was THAT picky, they would at least be putting them on a period correct style neck...

3 years old but I will add that oldfrets decals are actually way more correct to vintage fenders than the new fender decals

Hi! What stain did you use to get that amber color on that maple neck? Did you apply first or you mixed it with the lacquer? Cheers!

I wish I had seen this video before wasting my money and time on an ebay decal that took forever to arrive to my country, only to find it was an inkjet printed decal where pixels are visible. And the guy has incredible reputation and good reviews for the product which I can't understand. (Sorry, just venting out my frustration)

Please understand I am not trying to be a jerk but 1950-60's Fender Stratocasters have nut adjustments at the "heel" not the head, also I'm pretty sure that is NOT a Fender Stratocaster neck, I think its from a Squire ?

When I got my first Stratocaster.made in Japan 60’reissue it didn’t come with a fender logo.but if it flakes off? I’ll just take it off.1985 sunburst finish.

Thought I was over obsessive. What sucks about doing your own work is stressing over details only you would know.Have used the same set and thought they were fine. What actually concerned me was "faking" a Fender neck; if I had the time/ energy, would have much rather done a custom logo.Just because it would be much cooler, as originals always are.

what stain / tint / finish did you do on the head stock ? Looks pretty good, I am in the middle of a neck refinishing project, thanks !

A lot of guys have purchased a cheap Squier from a pawn shop for under a hundred bucks, put these waterslide decals on it, after sanding off the originals and tried to pass them off as an original instrument. Before you buy one, best to do some research!

I've learned a lot from your vids on your strat build. Thanks for sharing

I recently built a '60s Strat copy. I used all Fender parts. But debated on which neck to use. I liked the convenience of the truss rid adjustment at the headstock, but went with one at the body for aesthetic purposes. It's a pain, but I rarely need to adjust the truss rod. I just give it to my guitar tech and let him worry about it. Any pics of the finished guitar?

For the best decals go to Rothko and frost, based in the U.K by far the best decals out there.

One of my kids knocked over my Strat while it was on the stand, took a chunk out of the neck when it fell, I have to go through this entire process I’m sure, is there a way to fill in the wood on the neck so it’s not noticeable before I sand it down and paint it?

I can relate to your ocd. I’d want it perfect also.

Do you know any good alternative to Oldfret?

Love this series. I'm having a Strat built for me and am very interested in all this. Keep it up!

Nice work and you pay great attention to detail - but - it's doubtful anyone that sees your guitar is going to give a rats' patootie about your accuracy.
