Deep Dive Into Journaling 👇

You’ve probably heard ‘great minds think alike” — that’s true. So many great minds throughout history kept journals. I believe it's the number one tool you can do to change your life.

Journaling is to self-improvement what diet is to exercise. You apply all the self-improvement lessons inside your journal so this 'education' doesn't turn into only 'entertainment.'

So in this video, I'm going to give you 5 surprising benefits I’ve gotten from 10 years of keeping a journal. Hope you dig it!

I've started journalling digitally by opening my camera and talking into it and it's really helpful to me to clear my thoughts and also helping me improve on my talking abilities overal. Then I upload my journey for YouTube content, which might not be incredible but who knows, it might be the start of something great. 🤷‍♂

I'm a linguist and I can confirm that writing things by hand activates more areas from the brain than the keyboard writing. In fact, when you're learning a languague one of the recomendations is journaling in that language, writing it by hand

I started my first dairy in 1972, but I didn't formalise my journal habit until 1979. The work is massive, and even more so when I sat down to transcribe the entire collection. It's very therapeutic looking back, but it's painful, and not recommended for the faint of heart. Journalling, is such a part of my pysche now, it's like breathing.

Yes! Physically writing with your hands makes SUCH a difference when it comes to journaling.

I prefer typing my journal instead of handwriting in it. I find typing gets me to my stream of consciousness faster and I can really tap into what's really bothering me. I've had countless epiphanies while typing because I wrote the sentences quickly without fear of self judgement. The words formed from my keyboard almost as if someone else were typing them. I read these words as I type which is almost like I'm reading the words of a coach.

Another reason why I prefer typing over writing is that I know 100% that no one will get a hold of my journal and read it if it's password protected. I had a very impactful even happen when I was in junior high and my older sister who bullied the hell out of me, found my diary and read it aloud to the whole family. My father (also a big bully) and she would laugh and quote from my journal to poke fun at me. I will never let that level of intrusion happen again, so I have my journal password protected online. That website is my sacred, safe place to be vulnerable and I love it.

I have always said the the energy in hand writing is like pouring out the experience you are writing about. Purge the bad and increase the love vibration. ❤️

I really needed this Clark but, not for the reasons you may think.
I have a brain tumour and have found everything incredibly difficult to do, I just had my first day out of bed in 7 weeks today! I've been wanting to write in a journal for so long but I feel like for the longest time I've been incapable of completing any task..even having a shower can take me all day to work up to because of pain/dizziness etc.
The reminder that journaling is time I can take for myself and I don't need to accomplish it with speed has just taken so much pressure off.
Most days I can barely see so even if I write a page here and there when I'm able I will feel good about it.. its the assembling of my thoughts that counts not the time it takes to get them on paper ❤
Thank you for another wonderful video, meant more to me then I can express x

I've been on self improvement for quite a while now, but journaling was one of these things that I always knew about, but never got into. (I guess many can relate) So this video really changed my mind and convinced me to start 🤝

I started journalling 2020 after a heartbreak from a long-term relationship. This helped me to grow and improve in so many areas in my life that needed change.

Great video.

Journaling changed my life from the inside out. Better, I listened to Clark and others on how to focus my efforts with a goal, a question. You can change for the better and into the best. My journaling helped me be more outgoing, healthier physically and mentally, and to trace back the source of negative habits or thoughts so I could address them with compassion. I even took it further, according to my therapist’s advice, and use it to allow my younger selves to talk out their feelings. Then I show myself care, attention, compassion, and grace. This is a powerful tool.

Everything you are saying is so real for me. I learned not to write stuff out, but I draw out stuff I want to remember or think about in a deeper realm.

I find that journaling helps me get rid of negative thoughts and feelings in me, it helps me record what I learned from the day, what to do and not to do and so on. However, I should be more consistent in my journaling as I sometimes miss a night. Thanks for sharing this Clark. You're awesome. 🙏

I don't think I have ever agreed more with a video before! As someone who has journaled since 2011, I know all this to be true. Well said! <3
And to people who maybe haven't journaled before, you don't necessarily need YEARS of data to experience all the things he's said. Even looking back at your thoughts from last week can surprise you.

As an avid journaler, I agree with all your points. Journalling is just a simple yet dynamic exercise to associate with our own respective routines.

I did journaling every day for a year as my resolution for that year. It was amazing. It gave me a boost of self validation and self-love that I didn't expect. I have fallen out of doing it since that year, but you are very convincing and encouraging, giving me more reasons to go back and do some journaling again!

Also, I love seeing so many filled journals all stacked together. Very cool 😎

I agree. Journaling is a wide spectrum of benefits, from lowering anxiety to navigating one's life to new waters.

I love your comment about handwriting having an energy about it. You are so right. Also your relating journaling to being an active form of meditation – again you are so correct in that assessment.

Journalling is placing value on yourself, investing. Valuing your thoughts, impressions, emotional state, vs just letting life go by unobserved. I regularly search my Evernote journal for past lessons or insights. Perhaps w OCR, one can catalog a digital archive of hand journaled notes and have the best of two worlds.

Thank you for saying that negative selftalk was developped through years. You can´t change it in 6-12 months. That hits something in me *grabbing my journal*

I've been keeping diaries and journals since I was in 3rd or 4th grade (still have my very first one). 30 years on, I've got at least 20+ diaries. And I can attest to what you say about recurring life lessons and still seeing the same patterns from years ago! I'm not sure what it is, but I think those areas in my life are ones that need more attention or where I need to figure out how to deal with things differently b/c I'm blocked by something or react in the same way to get to that place and just haven't improved upon. But totally agreed, it's a slow learning process that won't necessarily go away in one shot.
