Research pilots involved with the Dynamics and Chemistry of the Summer Stratosphere ( DCOTSS) project join us to explain what it’s like during flight in an ER-2 aircraft. DCOTSS pilots are collecting atmospheric data before, during, and after intense thunderstorms for NASA and university scientists who are studying the intense summer thunderstorms over the central United States to understand their effects on Earth’s atmosphere and how it contributes to climate change.

Tim Williams is a research pilot at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California.

Kirt Stallings is a research pilot at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in Palmdale, California.
