In a former life, I used to sell cars. When I first started, I was told the customer has no idea what they want. it was the job of the salesman to determine their needs & steer them to what best fit those needs. I never believed this line of crap, except for budget. Every customer I dealt with already had a particular style (coupe, sedan, station wagon, truck or van) in mind. I would show them what we had that in that style & within their budget. I sold 2 cars my 2nd day, 7 cars in my first week, and was 2nd in sales for the month. When I walk into a store, regardless of if it's for a tractor or a pack of razors, I've done my homework; I know what I need & want. 16 years ago, i was looking for a ztr. I had been using an old 3-wheeler w/60" deck for my 1.5-2 acres. It was getting very tired and, given its age, was getting extremely difficult to find parts. I did my research and had already determined I needed something at least 25hp w/60" deck. I had told this to the salesman. First, he tried to tell me that model didn't come configured that way. Corporate website says it did. Then he tried to sell me a 21hp w/48" version they had on the floor. Would it have worked? Sure, but it would not have offered me any advantage in terms of time, nor was it want I had decided I needed. I walked out and haven't been back since. Went down the road to different brand; I walked out with 27hp w/60".
