"There is no clean option." Contrary, there is. Take Assad to the criminal court in Hague. Present the 'evidence' to Security Council at the UN. Privide humanitarian (non-military) relief and aid to the refugees.

The irony is, allowing Assad to win (end) the war against the al-Qaeda invaders is in the best interest of the civilians in Syria.
