The small hydroplane racing boats have been around a long time. Since the 1950’s. Three companies sold plans that I know of. They were Clark Craft Boats, Hal Kelly Boats and Glen-L Boats. I built a hydroplane in 1975 from a set of plans in my high school wood shop. Today with the internet finding all the correct hardware and marine supplies is very easy. Most lumber yards have marine plywoods and door skins for the build. Many use vintage outboard motors or they will use a Japanese Yamato motor. They are super fun to drive.

Here on the west coast, we used to call the #2 boats "Punkin-seed hydros". When I was a kid in the late 50's and 60's, most docks on the lake had one or two of these little guys, and races were held once a year. Lots of full classes. Most of them were powered by Mercury "Hurricane 10's". Ah the smell of castor oil!!!

I like how they always put descent looking chicks in the boats videos that were produced by the manufacturer.

Number 6 is a GW Invader. It’s good to know that someone got ahold of the molds and is still making them!

#4 is my favorite. For me and what I would like to use it for, it has potential. It's looks very sturdy in the water also.

They had Tiny Hydroplane Mini Watercraft races on the rivers in Maine when I was a kid, and I'm 60. Sometimes the bottoms would peel off at 50 MPH, no one got injured by the grace of God.

I BUILT A TINY TITAN IN THE 60S WITH MY DAD. I FOUND A KG7 SUPER 10 HURICAIN FOR IT . I WAS CLOCKED AT 40 MPH. WHAT A BLAST.

I got a mini race boat built by a Denmark builder in 1959. We put a 40 horse mercury short shaft and clocked at 96 mph. It's just been sittin for the last 25 years.

I like the Italian one the best. It is the prettiest and the biggest. Plus a small kitchen or galley is what it's called I guess. I'm sure the most expensive too!

The mini tug boats are really cool, and number 7 would be a great tour boat or super modern water taxi.

I have three of the Funjets. One of them I stretched to 11'11"and put a 657x Rotex motor (80HP) in it. It does 45 miles an hour. I'm in the process of making a mold for one that will be 13 feet and it will have a 135 HP Rotex motor.

7 looks interesting, if it had a closed back I would love a little pod boat.

#7 the capsule mini yacht.  couple of those on board a Large yacht, might make good life boats. Or a good little "go-between" from land out to a Yacht.

They are all cool! For the weight and DIY project, I would love to try making #2 one day.

I would like to think that one day I would be buried at sea. But Sparky the boat. Looks like a coffin. This boat looks like a do-it-yourself suicide kit. That's equipped to get you out there. with your very own coffin. They look so stable it looks like a death trap.
