I was in Japan around 2 weeks ago and got myself a pair of hori split pad compact in Midnight Blue! I just found out that the Midnight Blue is only released in Japan and im loving the colour!

I'm already sold on it. The textured analog sticks and the overall look of it won me over. I'm going with the Light Gray & Yellow version because I think it has kind of a retro look (like something out of the late '70s or early '80s), but I think the "Apricot" one looks great too.

Other than the back buttons and the turbo functionality, the Split Pad Compact looks to me like something Nintendo should have come up with years ago as a Joy-Con alternative. Something like this directly from Nintendo with wireless, HD Rumble, and gyro would undoubtedly have sold extremely well. The only reason I can think of for why they chose not to make their own Joy-Con alternative is that maybe they didn't want to risk undermining the original Joy-Cons in the eyes of the consumer. Oh well. Their loss is Hori's gain.

And while I know there are "better" alternatives out there with wireless, rumble, and gyro, I would always recommend Hori's Split Pad products over those because they're officially licensed. Quality in many unlicensed products can be a crapshoot, but licensed is generally pretty reliable.

I have the gengar split compact and the Nyxi Hyperion cons. Both I like them equally. Both have their pros and cons. When it comes to comfort, the Nyxi is a little bit better. I think the triggers on the compact are way better than the Nyxi. I love that the compacts do not need batteries verse to the Nyxi do. I switch back and forward depending on how I’m playing.

I highly recommend the compacts if you are on the fence of buying them. They are worth it. Specially if your hands alway cramp up, the compacts will help that.

I could see where some would really like them, me personally I really haven't found anything that feels better than satisfye grip

How does the speckled grip feel texture-wise compared to the split pad pro? I found the pro extremely rough and irritating to use, I could not stand it. Does the speckled feel like its going to scrape off, catch on anything, rough or uncomfortable? Anything that you could best compare it to? Same for the sticks, they look like they have a texturing in the middle.
