The full form of PIL is Public interest litigation is a legal action seeking for the benefit of the disadvantaged groups of minority or individuals or raising public issues. PIL can be filed either in High Court or Supreme Court depending on the situation. Both the courts have power to entertain the public interest litigation. Public Interest Litigation differs from ordinary litigation. It does not involve the enforcement of the rights of one person against another. Rather, this type of litigation is filed to provide justice to the section of the society.
