Dewalt DCF900 Impact 1/2in vs Dewalt DCF897 Impact 3/4in Field test on Semi wheels!

Taking two Dewalt Impact guns to semi lugs.
We will see which Impact is the better choice.

Both will be running 5ah Dewalt battery.

Removing lugs on the steering wheels and then off the drive wheels.

Personally, I'd use a 1 inch drive impact for semi wheels. I'd save the 1/2 inch stuff for smaller applications on semis, or regular passenger car/truck stuff. I do appreciate the real world test. Cheers!!

Thanks for the video. I am not convinced these are up to the test yet. A whole wheel r&r is the need, not just one nut. Air is probably still the best.

Hey man, your socket was getting stuck on the nut, and so the impact was fighting against its self. I'd suggest spraying oil on them first. That gun has plenty of power for semi lugs. Good luck!

Thanks for saving me 300 dollars today, I bought the 900 a couple weeks ago cause the 899 couldn’t take some 1 1/8” bolts on a Ariel compressor & the 900 couldn’t either so I thought about buying the 3/4 but not anymore, hopefully 961 can do it if it comes out

It looks like you had it on the tighten/loosen mode. You need to have it on 3 for full strength.

The lugs should have been tested to see if they were torqued to the same tightness.

Do you typically use a torque wrench to tighten the tires of these large trucks?

Use a 1" and 5/16 socket with the Dewalt 1/2, try it and thank me later. The socket fits tighter and stops it doing the chattery popcorn noise.

Why would you use a 1/2 drive on 18 wheeler lugs?

I think this whole trend has been ridiculous. We have had different size impact wrenches for different needs for a very long time, and for a very good reason. Even if you can put more torque to a drive and socket, that doesn't mean the square or the socket is built for that kind of work. More torque on a 1/2 inch just means beating up the tool, beating up the drive, beating the sockets and making everything fail quicker. You don't need more power in that tool, you need to go grab your 3/4 inch anyway, or your 1 inch if you have it.

All of this "torque numbers" for smaller tools is all about marketing and trying to beat competitors. Not make better tools or do a better job. We are going backwards.

It just has a bigger hammer that's why it feels like that but there's nothing wrong with it. They put bigger hravier hammer in the DCF900 Try the DCF960B

Use a Hazet or any other German made socket and no issue with sockets

Those wheels are on connected to a sem eye, not a sem E. Unless of course your a crazy Canuk. Just kidding, thanks for the video!

bro I suggest wearing ear muffs because these impact wrenches are very loud

The bolt removal mode sucks that’s why it was acting like that put the 900 on speed 3

😂 No problem or struggled for a little bit? Which one?

That happens when the socket gets stuck to the nut

I have the 897 it's always disappointing. I like dewalt but that wrench is weak

The test before he started, the lugs should have been torked
