Is Bar Soap Hygienic?

Always had an obsession with shower gels - would try at least 3-5 new ones every month. Seeing all the empty bottles, I finally switched to soap bars and I’m loving this new adventure. I find that the clean smell stays on you much longer on bar soaps vs shower gels btw.

I make soap and detergents from scratch. Soap's pH is too high to let bacteria grow on it. Detergents are normally formulated with a lower skin-friendly pH, which isn't ideal for bacteria but certainly won't prevent growth altogether, so we use preservatives.

Bacteria on bar soap is something I have never thought of. I lather up the soap with water and my hands before applying it to my skin anyway.

I had bar soap in my apartment in the shower and my roommate thought it was the nastiest thing. I never understood why...its soap literally meant to kill germs and stuff LOL

Rinse off soap before use if you want but make sure it can drain off dry before use. I use Sainsbury’s vegetable soap. Vegetable soaps I find gentle.

I remember a few key points from biology class in college, especially ones I found kinda fascinating. In regards to the way soap cleans is that it breaks the surface tension on your skin and dirt rinses away.
I think that's what I remember 😅

Would love to understand why goats milk soap and lotion are good & lasting for me! I know goats milk, emu, and lanolin can be tricky, I think those allergies are more common than say ceatyl alcohol (sp), urea, sunflower oil, etc, but I’m guessing there’s a reason that animal based moisturizers are so popular in the very dry intermountain western US. I know most of the US is humid but us arid folks could use an ingredient deep dive. We also get a lot of wind, ash, & jagged particulate {sand/scrub dirt storms will exfoliate you good} in our faces, & have unusually high amounts of sunshine, even in arctic temps, which is nice but bizarre at times. (FYI for those interested: lanolin & goats milk are vegetarian but not vegan, emu oil is extracted during processing, which is a nice way to say the emu dies, but these are ranch animals whose meat is the primary product, using emu oil does not affect the numbers who are harvested)

Idk what it is about liquid soap, but it really makes me itch. I only do well with triple milled soap, Aleppo soap, or soap d’Marseille. Maybe I’m nuts. Idk. I can use most things on my hands, though
