I received this bike on my 8th birthday in1970. It was red/orange with yellow Chopper written on the lower tube and had a slick for the rear tire. What a fun bike!! Wish I still had it, I would definitely still ride

I loved my mark 2.. Red it was a great bike. My dad was Frank Hamill the main Raleigh dealer for the Belfast CoOp. One day after the store had been fire damaged he brought home my chopper with slight burn damage on the rear of the saddle. I didn't care as it just made the bike even more special..

I had a yellow MK1, one of only two on our council estate the Xmas they came out, used to ride it to Battersea Park and ride down some big hill with a small jump at the end, had to have it welded where the rear down piece snapped off by the hub, also fitted a set of drop bars after seeing the sprint and was a disaster as I went straight over the top going down some hill near Selhurst Park as we moved to Crystal Palace from Stockwell...

I was too small for a Chopper so my folks bought me a Tomahawk in about 73/74. I was so jealous of all the big lads riding around on Choppers. Used to get backies on them. Murder if you had to sit on the basket shelf thingy at the back. Scarred me for life not getting a Chopper so about 5 years ago I bought a MK3 on ebay. Not as cool as the MK2 but you can pay £1500 for a MK2 these days. Does me to ride to Costa in the summer.

I think every boy wanted a Chopper at least until the BMX came along.

I always wanted a Chopper, but my mother said they were dangerous, she bought me a shopper instead!
It was a horrible thing, a RSW 16 with a bag on the back!
I was the laughing stock with my mates. They eventually gave me shots of their Choppers.

I sold my purple MK2 chopper for £70 in 1996 as it was left at my mum and dads house and they wanted shot of it.
I experienced lots of these bikes and similar through the seventies; budgie, striker, grifter, bomber, bmx burner etc and they were all pretty crap!
Rose tinted spectacles but then again why not if you love them and they take you back to different times!! 👍

I miss my MK2. Most comfortable bike ever... ok not the most practical, but I wouldn't exchange it and my memories for anything.

I see all those years later and they still didn't realise the square rear subframe had all the structural integrity of the little carrier on the back or the tin guard on the front...

Anyone here remember the plastic bag that made itself known when your seat began to split.
Bollocks B damned, I want a stick shift on my Giant!

I had a Sprint in brown, a mate had a 5 speed Chopper, both pretty rare I believe.

1970? Could have sworn I got my Yellow Mk1 in 1969 (8th birthday). Could be wrong, it's been a while! :-) I remember really, really, wanting one after being featured on Blue Peter.

When I was 7 I wanted a Mark 1 Chopper so badly. KP Peanuts had a competition to win one. I bought so many bags and I didn't even like peanuts. I never did get one.
