Original 1975 CHOPPER BIKE - Raleigh's ICON of the 1970's - ' A True Legend '

Originally launched as a MK1 version back in 1969 - the MK 2 version came along in 1975
In our opinion the MK2 was the best very created - with the T shape gear command shifter.

Raleigh later decided to produce a MK3 and a MK4 version
The MK3 came out around 2004 with a MK4 version in 2009 if you could call it a MK4 ! - looking nothing like the originally design of the MK1 & MK2.

I real Icon of the 1970's to 1980's - every child's dream come true

A beauty. I had one. It was red, too. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome I had one of these. This bike was iconic. Unfortunately I was violently robbed by two young thugs, thrown in a thorn bush and never saw the bike again. Broke my mom’s heart.😢

My dad bought me one when I was a puppy. I was about 8 years old. It was stolen from me at knifepoint while riding it in the park. He was killed later that year, also at knifepoint. Newark NJ in the mid 70's was hell. Still is. I still miss the bike, and him also. Thanks for the happy bicycle memory.

I had an orange mk 1 cost my parents £32 which they paid in installments of £1 per week, couldn't collect it until it was paid in full, my excitement that Saturday morning when I took that last £1 to the bike shop was off the scale!!!! ❤🎉

I got a chopper bike in 1973 for my 9th birthday. Rode it all through the 70s. Loved it. That saddle STILL cannot be beat.

Rode my neighbours chopper bike in 1972 when I was 10 years old. First time riding a bike with gears. It was really groovy back then especially with the peace not war slogon everywhere 😂

I had the same bike in blue in the 70s. This was the first vehicle that my father bought me and I rode it every chance that I could. I only had a bike during the 70s but felt that I had a car with that shift

I had a lime green one. I think I was 12 or13. So it was in 1972 or 3. I got some pipe (EMT) from my grandfather who owned an Electrical company and made it a real chopper. Unfortunately I’m sure many bicycles came to similar demise, but that’s what makes finds like yours so cool and rare.

Eaton's sold these in Canada. My husband had a green one, AWT Fastback XT-101 which his parents purchased for him in 1970. It still has a 1974 license plate " Antigonish 74" and then the number of the plate. The cool kids in Canada has these which I believe were all made in England.

In those days you could say I want to ride on a chopper, in public, but you cant say that now, lol

I had a rare white one with narrower handle bars and a cross bar on them, I got it when they first came out and apparently the version I had was only found here in South Africa and even then hard to find, I've seen many other mk2 choppers in the day but never even once one like mine was, even now like here on YouTube not even one, man I rode my chopper all over the place till I went to military and my brother made my bike disappear in that time, to this day I have no clue what the hell he did with my bike 🤔, peace from South Africa

I had one of these yellow. I also had the bike that looked like a motorcycle and had shock absorbers on the front and heavy springs on the back.

The mark 1 had rear seat stays in line with the rear wheel axle with no bend like the mark 2. The mark 4 has just come out now 2023 as a near identical copy of the mark 2, within current manufacturing and safety laws. I have just bought one from Raleigh in ultra violet, a boomer obviously lol.

Oh dear. The worst bike Raleigh ever made! Still a fashion statement; but that's all it ever was.
