Math is a large part of Machine Learning, without a doubt. However, it can often be a hurdle for many to learn the math involved in machine learning. There are levels to the math in machine learning, depending on your ideal role in the machine learning industry. If you are planning on working in research roles, you would need the learn math at a more advanced level than if you were interested in working in machine learning engineer roles or data scientist roles.

Here's a brief list of the most basic math required for machine learning:
1. linear algebra
2. probability and statistics
3. multivariate calculus
4. basic algorithm complexity

Linear algebra and Probability and statistics are a large part of the math required for machine learning and I talk about the about some of the best resources for learning math in machine learning.

Some of you have said the link for the ML roadmap might not be working, so I've fixed that, so you guys can go ahead and download it! :)

Thanks for the video. The roadmap is really useful. I am following a master's degree program in A.I. and I'm starting a machine learning internship next month. Right now I'm decent with linear algebra and statistics + probability. I guess I will go with the intermediate or advanced courses you mentioned just to be as prepared as possible. Also, there are some great free courses on Udacity, like Intro to Artificial Intelligence, Intro to Computer Vision and Intro to Deep Learning. Maybe you could expand that roadmap in some way ^_^

An excellent video Smitha. I think math is the foundation for most ML type roles.

Can you start explaining machine learning algorithms in 1 video or make a series, as you may know the problems faced by freshers. It will help everyone present there.

I started working on math for ml specialization from imperial college London. The notes in videos are literally useless, I’m having to relearn using my college textbook to go back and answer the quiz questions. The quizzes on the other hand are really thought provoking, so at least I know what to look for in my textbook…

Im doing my masters in AI and during my degree we didn’t do any maths. The last bit I remember is from when I did my A levels, so 4 years ago. Now im really struggling to understand how to code regression, clustering, neural networks etc…

These are excellent, very pragmatic videos thank you!! My interest is around developer/implementation level, so the math discussion is very helpful to see the different expectations according to role in the industry.

Hey,
I'm student of Mechanical Engineering (1st year)
But my intrest is increasing towards machine learning
Should I go for it???

Very helpful video.. thankyou! I am interested in comp sci and ml ai stuff but I am a commerce student with poor math understanding.. your videos have been very helpful

Great video. How much math should a professional interested in AI product management track consider? That is, a non-technical track to interface with technical AI professionals in product management and use cases.

I have an MA in economics and studied many of these topics previously. I would have to brush up. But is it really necessary?

hi thank you for this informative video, i just wanted to ask that the MIT course for advanced maths in machine learning only has lecture notes or does it also has videos as i could only find notes, thank you

What about matrices? Considering most calculations are on matrices.

@Smitha Kolan - Machine Learning Engineer Do you think it's best to focus on math courses dedicated to ML? They just give you real world application of each aspect, and you can also focus on the stuff that is applicable in ML, skipping the unnecessary.

May I see some math in an Ml code? Or do you instead import math libs?

Hii Smitha, I have been following your channel since long time.
Could you pls share resourse for mathematics required for AI.

Hello Smitha, Thank you for sharing your knowledge about machine learning. I’m actually new to A.I and machine learning and I want to ask a question that may look childish to experts but please give me some grace😁😄.
Can machine learning be used to manage and app? What I mean is this, can I create an app and then program it using machine learning to like run the day to day activities while I just do something else and get reviews about the use of the app from the mL algorithms. The reason I’m asking is because I saw your roadmap to machine learning and it is great but it requires a backbone of steel to start and finish through without giving up before the finish line. So I aim to create and app that can run and make some decisions on it’s own after learning mL is that possible to begin with?
Also how’s your new start up going?
